Opinions wanted - Restoring Sega Cabinet (Congo Bongo) Remove vinyl sidewrap and repaint or replace vinyl?

Remove vinyl sidewrap and repaint or has anyone found a color matching 3M adhesive vinyl replacement alternative?

I've just started researching this and would be interested in opionions. I've also just thought of repairing damaged edge areas and repainting over intact vinyl but at first thought this seemed like a bad idea.
