Okay... this should be interesting. I know that this is really a love/hate game but I would like to get some opinions from people who have owned the game or put in a lot of time on it. I've played it several times but not enough to really "get" the game and I'm considering one for what could be considered a "fair" price which is unusual for a cheap bastard like me. I will say that the game didn't exactly grab me the times I have played it but I felt even worse about DE Star Wars and found that I really liked it once I had the chance to actually play it. I'm a big fan of the show so that would have a lot to do with buying it.

i love it. as soon as i find one, i'm all over it...

i've played it at several auctions and i've played the hell out of it virtually...it obviously isn't the deepest game in the world, and tons of people simply hate it, but i think it's fun.

Much like you I haven't had a ton of time in on this pin. But I do honestly feel I can give a non biased opinion. Volume is critical on this game. If it's in a place and the audio is some what inaudible, well ..... that's 90% of the charm of this machine. I'm also a huge SP fan and the software makes me chuckle. The swear Roms "because I'm highly immature for my age" is a must even though you lose a couple small features. IIRC light show and a toilet flush or something else or another. While those ROMS do help ever so slightly, the game play itself is just blah. The rule set is pretty weak. I'm by no means a depth snob don;t get me wrong. Some of my favorite games have little depth in rules.
I dunno, honestly none of the shots were really satisfying to me.

OT:
I tend to drag my wife with me to play pin and I am always eager to hear her opinion. She thinks it sucks too. But then again she's not a fan of the show either. FWIW

Back on topic:
And the price tag these usually carry is ridiculous IMHO. The game shouldn't command $2200 - $2500 .... but that's a typical price I've seen over the last couple years anyway.

With the size of your collection Lindsey, I think you could easily get away with adding it to your collection. A small collector like myself or someone with very limited space, I fear they'd tire of this machine all too quickly.

They have a South Park and a TZ at a small bar my wife and I go to from time to time. The TZ is fun earlier in the evening, the South Park is more fun after a few pitchers have been consumed and the skill shots of the TZ become more difficult. :)

This pin is still among the top earners out on route in my area. We actually got yelled at by bar patrons when we rotated it out and put a family guy in :) They calmed down a little when we explained that FG had "adult content" enabled, so I guess they liked the swear roms

That said, the top earner is still CV out at a golf course, about $150-200 a week during golfing season.

It's a boring, easy game with shit rules....but I guess it's cool if it's cheap enough and you love South Park. A good newbie game.

Exactly. It sucks ass, last time I played it by my second ball I was wondering wtf I ever put quarters in for. Start multiball, play it, start again, shoot random shit. I bet I could launch a ball, close my eyes, and randomly hammer the flippers to sart multi. Theme is what brings in the $ on location, as far as owning it I have zero interest.

Well, I've never played it...but I think it's a very good-looking machine
and what fits me best is that it's from early(and good) days of South Park.

But you guys, can it really be that bad?

If you want to get a feel for the game why don't you install Visual PinMAME on your computer and get the South Park table? You can either download the full screen one and rotate your monitor or you can download the 4x3 angled one and play but I would recommend the full screen because it gives you a better view of the entire table.

There is no comparison to the real thing but at least it will give you an idea of the types of shots you need to make to get into certain modes and get a good feel for the rule set. The one thing you can count on to be spot on is the DMD to be 100% accurate representation since it is a dump of the real rom. I know I have done this before I bought both my real pinball and passed on a few cause I didn't like how they played on my cab. I had a chance to compare High Speed a few weeks back and it was pretty close.

If you need help setting this up let me know and I would say get this table if you can get it for under market value. I was tempted to get this just cause of the cabinet artwork but after playing it on my VP cab and having very limited space for only one pin I wanted it to be a really good one I would enjoy for at least a few years instead of just letting it collect dust.

As it turns out I have room for two cabs :) If you can get it for under market value then I would say go for it and then worse case you can flip it off and break even or maybe even a small profit. I picked up my High Speed for $1000 and flipped it 3 days after getting it cause someone posted a WTB ad on craigslist so I emailed him cause he said he would pay up to $1000 for a non working HS so I asked how much he would be willing to pay for a mint working one. Sure enough we both agreed on $1250 with him not knowing how much I paid and I used that money to fund my next cab which was Demolition Man.

Yeah, every time I play it I am usually looking around at the other games I could be playing by ball 2. Yawn.

And I LOVE Southpark. The game just feels weak and cheap.

But you guys, can it really be that bad?

Why yes, yes it can.
I'm not sure of the price tag everyone else is seeing but in the Pacific NW it's typically priced $2200-$2500.
I concur it's pretty easy to lose interest while playing this machine. Especially if there are others immediately available.

I honestly think it's the worst of the DMD games out there. I've given it a couple of chances and have never made it through all three balls without walking away. Before the end of the first ball you'll typically see everything that the game has to offer, which is not very much.

Well... I'll let you guys know just how badly it sucks because I've agreed to buy it :)

I most likely wouldn't have bought it if I didn't think I could get my money back out of it semi-easily. I like the theme and I have enough pins that a game that stands on theme alone and is only interesting to n00bs can blend into the wall paper. That said, I don't have unlimited space so it probably doesn't have a permanent place in my collection.

Have you ever posted pics of that insane collection of yours?

I post stuff on my blog all the time. Well... kind of all the time. I'm really not big on "look at me" posts other than my blog which is more of a "LOOK AT MEEEE!!!" but it's people's choice to look at that ;)

I usually post pictures on my blog when I get a new game but not always. I haven't posted any DE Star Wars pics yet and I got that months ago. I'll definitely post some pictures of the South Park once I pick it up.

Right now most of my stuff is broken down and stored in my basement due to having to move out of a warehouse I was renting on somewhat short notice. My resolution for next year is to finally start making the Bally/Stern restoration videos I've been planning for the last 2 years so you can expect so see lots of video of my insanity. Assuming it doesn't get put off for another year due to bullshit...

Heh,
Yeah I was timagining all the pins broken down, stacked on top of each-other warehouse style.
From the amount of pins you have, I was curious how you stored all of 'em !

I don't own any pins and am not an avid pinball player (I'm more of a video game player, although I did meet a couple of you guys at the Pinball Expo :) ) I like the game. One place I used to play it had the early swearing ROM's (which really aren't much different. There's nothing on there you won't hear on the early episodes, since that's where the sound clips are from. I think the "Swearing ROM's" in pinMAME is version .90, this place had .40.) Anyway, you guys who've played it, have you tried to complete all the individual kids/Chef modes? I think that's the eventual goal, then you get some super bonus modes. If you attempt every one, but not necessarily complete it, you get Spooky Vision mode. If you complete every one, you get Volcano mode. I've never been able to get the Volcano one, but I have gotten Spooky Vision once or twice.

I hope you enjoy your SP. I am not exactly a hater of it, but it is not high on my list. I played it alot when it first came out, even though I am not a SP fan. It is charming and engaging for awhile, but it got way too easy and way to boring pretty quickly for me.I got to the point I would walk away from it mid game, because I was over it. I'd still put a quarter or two in one if I came across one in decent shape, just to have a laugh or two at the audio comments, but I would likely not play a second game, even if it was free.

I just watched some youtube vids of South Park...and man - the music is ANNOYING as fuck. I guess I never quite noticed it in an arcade setting...but at home that would make me smash that game. Too bad, really...South Park deserves a "Simpsons Pinball Party" revisitation...w/ 13 or 14 seasons worth of material and the new SAM system w/ higher quality sound, that could be a great game.
