Just had my MK1 board turned up today (which I was really excited about) and found out it was a prototype. 9.0 to be exact. Being that I am fairly new to the whole arcade business, should I be happy that I got this, or a little disappointed. In terms of gameplay I can't tell any difference. Is this a good collectors item? or something that is frowned upon....

Prototypes are always a plus! Not many of them out there for each individual game, you should be thrilled with it. Some prototypes are glitchy and are usually kept separate for collecting purposes (with a working copy put in the machine) but if it plays all right, it's a win win all the way around. =)

Prototypes are definitely cool. There generally aren't many around. It depends on the game, of course as to how many there may be. Proto cabinets may or may not have been used in market research arcade locations. Again, that depends on the unit. An old boss of mine had a Black Knight 2000 prototype. It had been route operated and nobody knew it was a prototype until we took a closer look. The artwork on the plastics was different than the one I had at the time. The ROMs had "PROTO" on the labels. It was pretty cool just knowing that there were probably just a handful of them around.

Cool, I feel tonnes better now. Was a little concerned...
It plays great, and to be honest, with the the differences between it and version 1.0, I don't think I'd really have noticed. I'm terrible against Goro anyway :)

Didn't realise Reptile was added a few revisions down the track.. My local diary (7/11) must have had one of the newer boards :)

Compare it to revision 3.0 or 4.0. You will tell a huge difference. I have a Proto 9.0 pcb also and it is really not very fun after awhile. The physics are pretty terrible. The good new is you have a y-unit pcb so you can upgrade up to 4.0. All you need is to burn two chips. I can do it for you if you want them.

There are other hacks out there also that some people enjoy. Not really my thing though I have played them all in my cab.
