Opinions on NTE components?

So someone recently was telling me that NTE components are substandard quality. I've used them for a long time with no issues at all. Just curious what other folks on here think.

Anyone ever had any trouble with them? Specifically, have you ever seen any that seemed to be some other brand that was re-branded as NTE but were just not really high quality parts?

Here is my mindless rant on the subject:
I've only used them once and was not crazy about the result. I needed a replacement for a transistor on my 19V2000 when I was fixing my Battlezone, I went to the local parts place here and they sold me a NTE284 Transistor as a cross reference for a 2N3716 Transistor for $12.00, the monitor worked, but the some of the lines would not connect. Lived with it until I discovered Bob Roberts an actual 2N3716 Transistor for $2.00. Perfect!

They work fine for most applications.

Keep in mind they are a substitute part for many many other parts so the fit may vary.
