Hey guys,
I was hoping for some input on the next project I'm doing.
I got a particleboard Nintendo cab that I'm turning into a Vs. and I'm trying to decide on what color to go with when I repaint/repair it.

I have a few games for it but the Goonies seems to have the coolest marquee.

I was thinking about painting the cab the same purple as the logo and using black 5/8" T-molding. But I was hoping for some input from you guys.

Any opinions? Suggestions?

Thanks, ERIC

Cool game. I like that one because it never came out on the NES. Arcade only.

I like the purple idea. I think it makes sense to find a color in the artwork and match the cab to it. Purple is the obvious choice there. I would just make sure you match it right because the wrong shade or hue of purple might clash.

It came out on the Famicom and can be played on the NES with a Famicom-NES adapter. :)

The purple might work for the cabinet, but stick with white or another bright color for the T-molding.

Jess (Eseyo1) did a phenominal job on his Vs Goonies restoration, E. I would look up his old restoration thread and check it out for any ideas. Personally, I like the idea of dedicating an Ice Climber. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks Matt! I was just about to post that link. :)

Yeah, there's another thread going on right now about games you regret selling and this partially has to be one of them. I go into detail of why I chose to sell it at the end of the thread, but to keep a long story short, I did a three way trade for my 4P Konami X-Men.

But yes, it is by far the nicest restore I've ever done for the most part. It had all original art and I even had a NOS serial sticker that I had taped on the bezel (so not to "use" it). I sold the Vs. The Goonies kit recently though. Regretting that since the serial sticker is probably impossible to find.

I do have an extra NOS marquee and just got an original Vs. topper as well. When I have the space in a future home, I'll restore another cab to Vs. The Goonies.

Hey Jess,

HA! I know...I bought them from you!

Your restore is what actually gave me the idea to customize the cab.

I really like yours but the orange/yellow looked too much like a DKjr converion...IMO.
I wanted to seperate mine a little more drasticly from the conversions and I'm actually tossing around the idea of making custom sideart. Plus I didn't want to rip yours off :)

With the idea of making it look like it was an original dedicated GOONIES machine.

I'm considering a two tone scheme possibly. Meaning a differnt color on the front grill/coin door side then on the side art sides (a' la MARIO BROS)

Suggestions anyone?

Hey Matt,
Yeah, I know...I bought his Goonies DB, mobo, marquee & serial# sticker from him!
His restore is what insipered me to try one.

Thanks for the suggestion though...I appreciate you lookin' out.

Hmmmm............ I think I remember advising you of this, back in March! ;)

[Jess, GTFOH! You just restored this bad-boy, to the fullest! Made it look very unique, by housing Vs Goonies, with the kick-ass TOG keys! Pimped it out with the Goonies figurines. Had it for, what, a month? Now it's to the curb? Love 'em and leave 'em, huh Mr Simmons?!?

Man-o-man! Reminds me of Mouth: "......This one is mine! This was my wish. My dream! And it didn't come true. So now, I'm taking it back! I'm taking 'em all back!"

Reconsider, bro. Reconsider.]

LOL! I forgot it was you! Can I have the serial sticker back? ;)

Well, as you know, there were no "dedicated" Vs. cabs other than the odd looking gray cabs which aren't very aesthetically appealing IMO. I felt that the orange worked best because it was an original Nintendo choice of color and it mixed well with the Goonies art and even title screen.

I don't need to tell you how I would do it as you can already see from my restoration. :D

Though, if you wanted it to be unique by customizing it, I say do what makes you happy.

I know, Matt! I know! Hey, I kept my red tent, didn't I? ;)

But seriously, if you saw how big my game room is, you'd understand.

+1 for the RT! Just bustin on ya!

Bonus Points for me understanding, cause I do. I mean, Wicket and Chewie gonna sleep somewhere, right?!?

Actually, Wicket and Chewie did not get along. With the new baby it would have been hell so our good friends adopted Chewie and now he's much happier. Wicket loves the game room though. He likes to chill on the futon.

Yeah. Those were the factory direct ones from Nintendo. I saw SMB in them 95% of the time, as I'm sure the company marketed them, for that purpose. I think it would be cool to own one, yet, I too would paint the cab from that gray. Would be nice to do an Ice Climber in a DK2 blue color or maybe a RBI in a DK red. Possibilities are endless!

The Dual Upright cab is that color gray, which I'm convinced was a USA thing, seeing how we know from the flyer that Balloon Fight was dedicated in an orange cab. I would love to get a marquee made so mine can become a reality! Alas, the image seems too hard to graph from that non hi-res scans around. :(

I like the purple over the yellow, but me personally, I would go with a Venom Mojave Rattler can purple. I might paint one of my car that color.
