Fielding opinions on the arcade game Karate Champ. What does the community think about the game?
Also why was it called karate masters in some spots?

I think most members like this game and give it props for being the first "fighter". Then there are a few members on here that LOVE this game, me being one of them. I grew up playing this game and it was one of the games that I was pretty good at. It was also the first arcade game that I bought and it's still in my collection. I'm really the only one who plays it, but like the honey badger, I don't care!

Here's mine on its way back into the game room:

It's a good ole stand by.....more fun with two players but has the classic speech synthesis that makes the game. The graphics, the game speed are slow but kooky and fun. If you have the space, go for it.

Never heard of Karate Masters, there was a Kung Fu Master

Karate Champ is a great 2 player game. The 2 player is the only way to go

Great game.

I don't have a pic of mine but it has a different coindoor than OTT's, the coinmechs are like the ones on Nintendo cabs, but the cab is a dedicated cab it just needs major repairs as it is pretty bad...but still playable in the garage...

Edit: Mine looks like this one:

Just picture it with tons of water damage and the whole back missing.....

I miss my Karate Champ - I played it repeatedly as a punk teenager at the local vidya tape rental store. I tried to get my kids to play it years later and coming off Street Fighter and Tekken they could not comprehend the concept of waiting for a move to complete before changing the joystick directions. They were so used to pounding buttons randomly that the idea of making one move, waiting, and then making another made no sense. They wailed on the sticks, said the game was broken, and quit.

So for kids or new players - maybe not so much but I still love the game.

should i pick it up then since its not original? it 150

I would haggle the price and try and get for $100 or less, only because I am a big fan of the game, if your anal about your collection than a conversion probably won't make you as happy.

I have a good condition, non-tested, Karate Master board if anyone is looking for one.

Guessing from the screen shots on the KLOV page, they are actually playing the one player version

Since they were overseas, they were most likely playing Karate Dou. Not sure if it was only one-player or not. I haven't had time to hook up my Karate Dou board to see.

Oh, and I love my Karate Champ. The only "fighter" worth playing - except for perhaps Primal Rage...
