Operation Thunder Owners: A few questions.

1. The game plays correctly, but it sounds like a switch is getting hit constantly. Over the music it sounds like someone is saying : "SU-SU-SUPER! SUPER SU-SUPER!" Is this normal? Or is there some switch that makes this sound happen that is shorting?

2. My second question is with the plastic Diverter on the right middle of playfield.. Is this supposed to let the ball drop back into the shooting lane? It just seems kind of wierd, there is a fork that the left path drops it back on to the play field, but the right path drops it into the shooting lane.

All modern pins have self diagnostics that can narrow a lot of this down for you. Run through those, paying careful attention to the switch test (If it comes back clean, try bumping the pin, odds are your switch will trigger with a bit of persuasion). The coil test will test the diverter for you, if it doesn't move when it's coil is fired, you have your answer.
