I turned on my Star Wars and the screen was extra large and bulging in and out a bit. A friend told me to just adjust the pots on the board to shrink it down but was suspicious due to the fact that it was sporadically changing size. After some reading, I'm leaning more to the idea that this is due to low hi-voltage and bad connections of the transistors on the EHT board in a known phenomena known as 'blooming'.

I might be talking complete crap but that's what I'm going with for now. More to come.

I'd do a cap kit on that monitor. Color WG and Amplifone monitors are not prone to blooming issues like the black and white ones.

Pots

Ampliphones have size pots on the deflection board. When one is failing, the image grows and shrinks quickly. Might be time to rebuild the monitor.

I'm sorry. I've been busy and haven't been compulsively checking here lately. ;)

Thanks for all the tips. It's a WG6100. I haven't really poked around the monitor yet but that pot issue sounds more probable than it blooming from low voltage from HV, (although I did notice that the last person who serviced the monitor did not replace all the screws to the HV board). I'll look into that first before messing around with the HV board.

Thanks,
Juan

Very common condition since the screws on the back of the cage are difficult to turn in by hand. Plus the metal on the case strips out easy when putting the screws back in.
