Operation "Pole Position"

I was going to do this with my Pole Position, but I couldn't find a solution for the throttle control. Everything I found had only full throttle, or no throttle, no in between.

The red and white track graphics - they were where the gauge graphics were in the first pictures. Was that an optional "overlay" for Pole Position cabinets?

That overlay was for Pole Position II since you can select the track you want to race...

So do the steering wheels hook up to the A-Pac as well? Just trying to get the set up straight in my mind.

According to their website:

What types of control can I use?
For analog you can use any controls which contain potentiometers. These include steering wheels, pedals, analog joysticks, flight yokes etc. You don't need to stick to the markings on the board but can wire to any convenient analog axis and configure the game to match. All 32 inputs will also accept switch controls such as pushbuttons, joysticks.

So, since the PP cab uses an optical board instead of a pot, I would say no, but it will work with the gas pedal pot...the mouse board hack is extremely simple to do. Just find an old 2/3 button ball mouse, grab the board out of it and mount it where the original optical board was. Not sure if you can tell from the pic or not, but I think I have some more pics of the setup.

Cool. I'm just trying to get a mental list of what I'll need someday when there aren't any more working Super Off Road boards. :(

When you painted the side of the cab, did you repaint the word ATARI or was it ok from before? It looks like you left it alone, and just painted white above it? is that correct?

I repainted it...I first taped of the word ATARI so I could repaint the white, then took a wide Testors model paint brush and repainted the word ATARI. I used the black spray paint for plastic (just sprayed it into my small model paint tray) to redo it.

Very nice job.. I like the white tmolding.

I'm interested in also getting a copy of shiftermame. I didnt know that existed:)

How many racing games does it have? What is the menu interface you used that intefaces with the steering wheel and pedal?

I like racing games but I dont have room for an arcade full of them.

Does anyone know if any of the more modern games like Hydrothunder
are available in mame.

I'm interested in this as well. I have a PP cab ready to restore, I just need to get the software and an Apac card.

Thanks! Stole the idea of the white t-molding from a friend...thought it looked awesome on his, so I carried over to this one and will be putting it on the next one as well !

Got your email address and will be sending it out to you shortly...

I think it had about 6 installed on it...the interface is just the ShifterMAME menu. When you activate the mouse in MAME, you can select a game using a mouse...

From looking at the vendor's site, it looks like the APAC will handle both the throttle and the steering wheel control, isn't that correct? If so then I can skip the mouse hack?

Doesn't look like it would work since the steering wheel is optical and doesn't contain a pot. This is what the website says at the bottom of the APAC screen:

"For analog you can useany controls which contain potentiometers. These include steering wheels, pedals, analog joysticks, flight yokes etc."
