Well, since this area is where I do most of my arcade restorations and repairs, I figured I would start a thread in the restoration section on my newest project, Operation: Arcade Shop Facelift. I've been working in a cramped, cluttered, poorly lit space for far too long. I'm tired of losing things, tripping over things, breaking things and just tired of the general ugliness of a space that I just stopped keeping clean after a while. This thread will help keep me honest and hopefully help keep on task by posting weekly progress reports with pics. I am only about 15% of the way into it, but man, it already feels liberating. I have pics of one of the areas that I've yet to clean and renovate, and a pic of an area that has been cleaned, partially painted and in progress.

Note the blandness of the brown pegboard, the mismatched shelf brackets, the dirty benchtop, etc, etc, etc. in the first pic, and the bright, clean organized look of the second. I am going with a hwy construction zone theme for this area. I've already got my caution tape and will be painting the bench tops black. And yes, that is Pacman Yellow on the pegboard. I think it looks hot, and is a dead ringer for safety yellow.

I dig the yellow and there is nothing like working in a clean organized shop. These magnetic tool holders from harbor freight work great for organizing stuff.

Looks great, but please don't let those monitors fall on your head! What size screws are holding those shelf brackets? I hate having monitors in the way, but I keep mine on the floor.

I need to get organized as well. Its always fun finding duplicates of tools because you lost/couldn't find what you needed in the first place.

You rust belt people have no idea how much free space you have. There is barely room to even move around in my 86 year old garage.

Are you going to post a 6 month update like they do on HGTV so we can see if you have maintained the clutter free lifestyle?

Love the color scheme.

Gawd, wouldn't that be nice. I always feel like I stepped back to 1996 when I see their webpage.

I hate the fact the page is copy-n-paste protected. You can't copy text off of it directly, not even his email address. You can go into debug mode to get the text out of the source document of course.

But back on topic of the workshop...

very jealous, they build garages out west like crap, so small i can't even fit my F-150 in it. I wish we had more room so i could do the same.

You can disable java (at least in Firefox), then it works. I think you have to turn off scripting in IE to do the same thing...you're right though, I hate websites that do that too.

will you also have someone just standing around while you work?

What's up with the buttons for the garage door so high?

i would expect those garage door buttons to be arcade buttons

living in california, monitors on the shelf would just be asking for trouble during an earthquake.

looks good though..i like it when things are clean and organized - but sometimes that results in me not finding my stuff like i could when it was a mess...
