Oopsie! ALMOST a disaster...

WOW! I would have laid it down once I took the other games out.

Yes... of course... but I would have been unable to get it out of the trailer at that point because I had no help once I got home. The trailer was very low to the ground and I really wasn't sure I would be able to lift it upright once I slid it part way off the trailer. I could have strapped it differently and it would not have happened either.

All's well that ends well.

By contrast, I was also hauling a Qbert. She was laying down in the back of my SUV. Gary and I laid her in there like a casket - lifted off the ground, one on each side, and slid into the back of the truck. we got it out at "Rusty Quarters" the same way. Light enough for 2 men to lift and carry. Quite a difference.

Yes on all counts. I haven't seen an Exidy shooter locally since I have been collecting (I certainly could have missed one or two) so it was worth the cost and the effort.

I have the multi kit so that will make it even better.

The 'crossbow' itself is just so cool looking!

For a long time, the Aladdin's Castle in Maplewood Mall had an Exidy Showdown.

Just basically a poker game, but I still played it like crazy.

I just read this. HOLY SHIT!

Picked up a difficult to find game (Crossbow) yesterday. (Thanks Gary aka billybob).

Drove it home from southern Iowa to Minnesota...
Stopped off at the soon to be opened 'Rusty Quarters Arcade and Museum' to deliver a pair of games...
Drove the rest of the way home (20 miles) without issue UNTIL the very last turn...
the turn into my driveway...
I turned, I looked in the left hand rear view mirror and did not see my Crossbow...
HOLY SHIT !!!
I look in the right hand rear view and I see her sticking out like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Can you imagine? 350 miles of highway driving, manuevering through downtown Minneapolis (to make the delivery), and after all of that... turning into the driveway I almost lost her.

Good think she was triple strapped. The only thing that was holding it up were 2 black straps across the deck, on the bezel side of the crossbow.

Sheesh.

Decided not to risk the stairs up to my apartment.
She spent the night in the garage.
(That is a beastly cabinet to unload by yourself!)

Alan and I talked about this pickup as I just got one not too long ago too, but you never said you about toppled it , ha! If that was my luck, that thing would have fallen out and crushed a school load of daycare kids... getting mine into my arcade room was brutal and my neck still hurts....but.... by far my favoirte piece in my arcade and I cant seem to get enough of it, really loving Crackshot lately,,

Nice score.. I had a battlezone do that to me once.. Scary.. I alway lay them down now if I have enough room.. Glad you didnt loose it:)

Wait!!!!......you only put one strap on that game? No wonder it tipped. You need at least another one pulling toward the back of the trailer.

No sir. I am not that much of a noob.
;-)
It was TRIPLE strapped and I had driven it almost 400 miles (much of that at 70mph) without an issue.

Three things that caused this ---

1. I have moved several hundred games on all kinds of trailers over the years but I was very unprepared for how tall and top-heavy this particular game was... and I didn't account for that. I would have strapped it differently if I would have given the proper consideration to those factors.

2. I have other games in the trailer for most of the trip and once they were dropped off, I should have completely refactored the way the Crossbow was strapped.
I didn't.
Without those other games to bolster things, poor Crossbow was left to 'stand alone' as it were.

2. I was tired... going on the 12th hour of the trip... it was late and I was almost done. ONE turn away from my home and I made that turn too quickly, forgetting for a moment that I was pulling the trailer. I don't care how well you have something strapped... if you do not continuously consider that things are different when pulling a trailer... somethng bad can happen or, in this case, ALMOST happen.

My lessons learned were to be sure to always strap, or re-strap, for the current situation... to always be calm and deliberate in my driving no matter what the conditions... and to make sure I have help commited for unloading (especially for larger items) --- if I had someone to assist me I would have laid it down following the first drop off.

Whew! I thought.....how dumb can he be? ;) Have one over the top? you couldn't lay that down by yourself though? That's one of the easiest things to do with game, no? Anyway, glad it DIDN'T fall. :)

Lay it down... sure.
Pick it back up... uhhh... maybe not.

It weighs 3 times what I do.
The trailer was low... only about a foot off the ground.

Lay it down... sure.
Pick it back up... uhhh... maybe not.

Either one is easy enough to do by yourself from my experience. Once no part of the game is touching the ground, well that is a different story! :D Although picking one up that has rollers can be a PITA for obvious reasons, but that's when you gently roll it onto it's side and then lift it upright.

The issue with the trailer being low, flew right over my head though. :)

Not wishing any ill on anyone, but this would have been a much more legendary thread had it flipped out of the trailer.

Especially two turns away from the destination.

I was hauling a parts-car across country once. When I got it home, I discovered the tiedown holding the rear axel had been almost sawed in two.

I was using multiple tiedowns, of course. But still, that almost gave me a heart attack.

Nowadays, I go way overboard on tiedowns whenever I haul anything.
