The thread on the Pole Position cockpit got me thinking. I have been pondering getting a racing game for my tiny arcade room, but I can only get ONE.

I *might* be able to fit 2 sit down drivers that are linked, but that is doubtful.

I love the Pole Position cockpit but I know they are tempermental at times.

If you only could have ONE racing game, what would you pick?

I have a single Indy 500. Not a bad game but I think a Rush 2049 would be pretty cool. Then if you had space later on, you can get a second or 3rd unit.

I am not a big fan of Pole Position, I think when it comes to driving games the newer ones were better, especially with multiplayer options through linked units.

Probably not what you had in mind, but Super Sprint (3 player) is a heck of a lot of fun solo or at parties.

Only one? Outrun Mini. Awesome game, awesome cab, awesome blonde in a red Ferrari.

Race Drivin'. That game has _lots_ of replay value, the force feedback on the steering wheel is awesome and using the clutch to shift adds to the fun.

Now if it wasn't so damn big.

Aren't we all proof that you can't just have one in this racket??!!

I guess it depends on if you want a driving game that you are getting for YOU, or if you are looking to get a driving game that your crew of regulars who visit your home and also PLAY GAMES would like..

If it's the latter, you gotta do Pole Position (if the visitors are of the age bracket that many of us KLOVers are). You only have to hear that DOOT.. DOOT.. DOOT.. DEE!!! once :D

It has to be Pole Position.

The best racing games are on the consoles now, unless you build a twin racing cab that houses a console ala Gozer's Xbox racing cab.

I would personally go with Initial D. Since, if I remember correctly, v1-v3 were on Naomi, so 3 Naomi games for that sounds like a good deal. Also, I bet there are other Naomi games compatible with those controls.

Yes, technically not 1 game, but one cab, and that is pretty close. If it had to be one game, I would pick Initial D v3

for me it's going to be an Outrun upright. when I'm done with my other 2 restores, I'm going to hit up this bad boy that I got for FREE!!!!
I already plunked down $65 for a steel B-gear for it.

Ideally I would love a full motion delux Outrun but no way I want to sacrifice space for 4 machines to one of those bad boys.

I like the out run and of course PP ideas, but i'm kinda holding out hope for a sit down if possible. I think I can do ONE sitdown/cockpit game, and since I'm probably not gonna see a StarWars fall out of the sky to my basement, I think it's going to be a racer.

I do like cool cabinets though and one I think looks cool would be the Hang On upright that looks like a motorcycle fairing. Not big on motorcycle games though but the cab is cool.

How do people refinish the side art on a PP sitdown? I haven't seen any companies selling repros of that.

I went with Super Sprint but I would love a pair of sit-down drivers too. My kids would love 'em, I'm sure (and me!).

I was thinking Rush the Rock: Alcatraz. Not too pricey and crashing actually means something, not like the Cruisin' series where you just pop back in to position after you flip your school bus. However, a custom Xbox like Gozer's or, better yet, 360 linked cabs would be awesome.

Well you could do what I did and MAME a Monaco GP cockpit, that way you have PP and some side art too. It just doesn't match LOL

(I know someone's cursing my name right now)

I personally suggest Rush: The Rock, it's good as a one player put f you buy another they can be linked. I am still looking at getting my second one but I got my first one cheap since it was a bad power supply.

@VintageGamer: don't worry there have been many occasions where I thought about doing that to one of my PPs, they are upright so they aren't as cool but man they drive me crazy!

Two suggestions:

Speed Freak (can't beat vector cows!)

Rally-X

Too late on Rush the Rock, the two near me sold like a week ago!

I've had:

Indy 500 twin
Rush the Rock twin
Hydro Thunder twin
Pole Position

Out of those I like Rush the Rock best, followed by Hydro Thunder and then the others. I'm waiting for the Mario Kart game to show up at auctions. If I were really motivated and knew it wouldn't suck, I'd build a Mario Kart Wii linked setup.

I also tested a Super Sega GT and Initial D3. SSGT isn't bad, but ID3 is just a drift fest. I didn't like that.
