//This is the first of a few galaga boards I have to work on//

On the bench tonight is a dead galaga.

his board was completely dead, had power to the caps, but would not run.

So I say screw it, its a galaga, bad caps, bad sockets, that's where I am starting.

tonight I will remove the sockets, wash the board, replace the caps

I have the resistor packs, but this board has he encapsulated packs which should be good, if I have to take it apart again, its not that bad

This board has:

Sockets: //all listed are wide
6 - 28pin sockes
6- 24 pin sockes
3 - 40 pin sockets
1 - 42 pin socket

Caps: //all listed are axial
1- 470mfd 16v C1
1- 22mfd 35v C20
1- 220uF 25v C21
1- 100uF 16v C22
2- 10mfd 16v c28,c44

This is a work in progress as I am repairing it, it will be updated as I work.

Good luck. I'm in the middle of doing a Full Renew myself. 10 bucks says the board ends up with Gamefixer anyway.

LoL if I have major issues... You betcha. Thats my go to guy. I like to give it a good try first.

Why do people hate galaga boards?

This is why.. when you work on one... it takes a massive shit on your work desk.

Thats alcohol on the board btw not flux

I clean the pads before I wash the boards

Galaga boards just drive you to drink....

Bought a handle of American honey just for when working on these.

Im running the traces with sockets off...

It takes a few hrs to do it completely.

Then sockets back on.

Then test, then rework the video board.

It's a long involved process. Thats why original galaga boards that have been fully reworked are expensive.

The non reworked boards are worth the custom chips and eprom price. Thats it. Sooo many hrs of work to do it right.

Who does not replace caps, sockets, and un encapsulated resistor packs, is not doing a full rework.

Verifying and reburning roms included.

That is my opinion, take it how you want.

But this is the process i use. I want to do this once to the board and have it last another 20-30 years.
