OMGWTFBBQ!! SF CE Turbo??!?

Hey Johnny HC, SF CE Turbo is pretty sweet. I remember busting out SFII Turbo on the old Super NES. I recently fixed one of these SF machines for a movie theatre in fact. Nice to see the 90's games getting taken care of now.

Hey, Phet. That looks like a very depressing arcade. :) Nice work getting that all squared away. It's a fun game. Who's your favorite character?

I think we are going to see more and more 90s games getting love. I think as the younger collectors come in, these games are going to get a lot of attention. It's already happening, me thinks.

It's definitely already happening. The price of JAMMA boards has gone up over the last decade. I remember buying both SF2 Champion Edition and Final Fight pcb's for $50 total back around 2000. Now you would be paying that much or more just for one of them. I know the majority here are into the early 80's classics, but there a number of us into the "new classics" as well. I'd love to see more work repro art, parts, etc available for these games. I've wondered before if people in my age bracket will be happy with just a MAME cab or a multi-game. Nothing wrong with those at all, but I like to see things preserved.

John - I know you touched on sticks very lightly and have only probably started getting into the charge characters. If you can post a picture of the back of the joystick we could give you some dirrection.

My fear is that you have Happ Ultimates in there. They are OK for general use and even charge characters on SF2. If you start to learn circle motion/uppercut characters then you're going to need a Happ Super or Competition in there. Ultimates have too small of a window for error and the motions aren't as smooth going all around. Some can play fine on them but it's a poor joystick.

Yes SF guys argue about this stuff all the time but this is pretty general knowledge. Ultimates are the wrong choice and even worse to learn on. You'll find it pretty imposible to throw out an Upper Cut on Ultimates and from the Pics, it looks like an Ultimate or a Competition.

You see a competition in this above pic. I also used a 1/2" wooden block to space it so that the joystick rides at a good height. I like the distance or am used to it mounted in a wood cab. The metal panels are thin so that joystick handle sticks up super high.

I'll post pictures of my sticks tonight. I was looking to upgrade them and would love advice. Thanks!

Don't be scared off by what people are saying about Super Turbo being too hard. I'm not some SF pro or anything, and I love mine. Someone has the Japanese version available in the For Sale section now, battery change last year. Is it hard? Sure. But what good game isn't?

When you search for a 3rd Strike motherboard/cart/cd, I'm hoping you stumble upon two...'cuz I need one!

It's simple -

for American Wood Bodied Arcade Cabs
Vintage but works great - commonly known as Happ Super
Current Standard for fighters - commonly known as Happ Competition (you'll find the iL made ones performing better than the Happ ones now made in China) (look for white microswitch accuators)

Perfect 360 sticks are really not required but supposedly are the ultimate for all.

Also figure out if you like the weight of a heavy spring or light spring. You'll find that brutes like a heavy spring but honesly it tires you out and a light spring is faster. It's still what you are used to. It's been a long time since i've built one w/ a heavy spring but FYI, it's another tune-able aspect of the stick. It does effect your performance/playability also.

Japanese Candy Cabs -
Older Seimitsu or Sanwa JLW - appear to be more of a vintage japanese style.
Current Sanwa JLF sticks - very much the standard and they are super accurate and perform absolutely wonderfully.

Sanwa Flash sticks are the equivalent of Perfect 360s are are out of production. They are pretty awesome and I've built some console sticks using them.

Did you watch his skill level in the video? No way is he going to enjoy ST!

I could also learn a thing or two before I tweek my SFII cabs. Because I've been finding some Joystick/button combos on ebay for like around $30-$40. Just want to make sure I'm not buying useless sticks.

How are these for SFII?

Happ, chinese clone competitions. Yes they are fine... earlier models have problems with tollerances and fit. The shaft had to be forced down for an installation. They've fixed it. I find them cheaper as some of the plastics are more brittle.

ugly colors in that bundle make sure you have black sticks. EVERYTHING else looks odd unless it's a color coded 4P game.

I was going to go with 1 1P black and 1 2P red stick and grab the red, blue, and white buttons.
Otherwise yes I agree about the colors.

I thought i was watching a game show, you narrate so well :D

btw is that a 12" subwoofer connected to the machine on the back? justifying the MTX sticker lol.

Definitely a nice add to your already awesome collection. now you need to get your hands on a MK2 :D

Yes... unfortunately Bobs are Happ from china. These are a little better. I hope LL has fixed their shipping woes but I think that this was back with SF4 launched and they couldn't keep up with all of the stick building.

True, but none of us are competing in any tournaments. Bob's are fine and you know he ships right.

i finally got to check out the IL Euro's brand new this past weekend, honestly i didn't feel a huge difference if any between them and the Happ Competitions. I'd say go with either one honestly. IL Euro's seem to be in short supply if your looking for colored sticks tho.

Yes but you've never heard me complain about the brittle dust rings from these china built sticks. I have had 2 or 3 crack on me and 1 was even out of the plastic bag cracked. I just never complained about them but iL is a better made stick plain and simple. You can save a buck or 2 per stick going with the chinese ones but if these are like the ONLY 2 sticks you have for fighters... get some iL made sticks.

I've built more fighting control panels than I can even count over the last 10 years. When Happ switched to china, there was a clear difference in quality.

The controls are something you dirrectly interface with and it's something I have a hard time skimping on... $2 isn't much either.
