I owned one of these for a while, but even back in the glory days it wasn't my favorite.
Perhaps the funnest aspect of driving games is head to head competition which is why I always recommend getting newer two player (or more) games like Daytona USA, Indy 500 or Rush 2049. And of course Mario Kart.

true, but minus the head to head aspect it is a fun game. i used to play the crap out of this on my c64 and atari 5200. this and turbo were the first real quality graphics driving games imho.
Is Turbo and Monaco GP the same game?
There is a mini Monaco GP for sale locally for $250... I'd be interested in it solely for the cool factor of the cab though... and that's not quite $250 worth in my opinion. I did shoot out an offer... which, of course, has been ignored.

Monaco GP came before Turbo. It has a top down view instead of a horizon view. They are not the same game.

yeah. i got stuck in logan last thursday when our flight got cancelled that was pretty much tail end charlie to that storm. down in plymouth it was coming in sideways off the water so there was a good amount of ice mixed in as well. ended up being 75 out here on friday, and today it's somewhere around 14 below 0 with a couple inches of snow on the ground.

Pole Position blew Turbo away when it was released...and I believe PP was the highest grossing arcade game in 1983. I thought it was too hard. I had friends who were really good at it, though.
In my mind the only way to properly play the game is the cockpit version.

I'm with you, and I've owned both. I love the simulated stereo sound, the ergonomic seat, the sweet bezel graphics and the resistance of the shifter. Cockpits are always cool.

looks to be great!! itll either run forever or give you issues rather quickly. A run in the cade will tell ya for sure.
if the edge connectors get flakey is reccomend you bypass the +5 and ground direct from the harness to the test points on the pcbs eliminating those pins on the edge connector.

What about Spy Hunter?
Pole Posititon is great, but I NEVER see anyone talking about Spy Hunter, is there some reason that it gets no love here? Both games are a ball bustingly hard. I love the Peter Gunn theme and the flashing buttons too.

well when i get them out of storage I will take pictures of both of my all original pole positions. one works with pixelated graphics and the other doesnt power on at all. I do have a spare working power supply but who knows whats up with them? lol. One day I will have one working properly (yeah right) and sell the other for parts or whatever

Spy Hunter gets talked about here but usually it's about repair issues. A lot of people like the game.
I owned one of those, too, but sold it a few years ago. It's hard to compare it to Pole Position since PP is forward perspective racing simulation and Spy Hunter is more of an overhead survival/driving game.
Right now the only driving game I own is Indy 500, the left side/single unit. Not a bad game. I have been debating about getting rid of it in favor of a Rush 2049 which in my opinion is one of the best drivers you can own. Then later on getting 1 or 2 more of them for head to head racing...

Rush 2049 is the best racer? I really am not a Rush fan. There are so many other less generic racing games out there. 18 Wheel Pro Trucker, Crazy Taxi, Mario Kart GP, F-Zero, Daytona, even Radmobile!

I said it was one of the best, not the best. The best is a matter of opinion. But 18 Wheel Pro Trucker and Crazy Taxi? Are those racing games?? F-Zero is an okay game but I'd take a 2049 over it. Mario Kart GP is a great game but it's priced way too high for the average collector.
