Haven't done one of these (OMGWTFBBQ things) in awhile... :D

My latest pick-up... Not sure where the hell I am gonna put it!!!

Am I gonna regret getting one of these? Is it gonna break in a day? :)

I'd pick up a working one in a heartbeat. KEY WORD: - working -

Better go about bullet-proofing those ARII's, checking edge connectors, and running extra +5V and ground wires to the boards if you are going to keep it.

This thread is useless without the ADD video tour :D

PP's are known for hot connectors and shitty monitors. I'd see what kind of monitor it has and go from there. A rebuild on the ARII should help keep your connectors from getting too hot. Also lose the battery on the main PCB if its still there.

No video probably until the spring or until the snow melts. I am not gonna turn the thing on now that it has been in the garage for a day. :( I want to play it! :D

Thanks for the tips. I shall execute these ideas!

Congrats! Also consider jumping one +5 and one ground to a test point on each board. What I did was just pull the needed 4 wires from the edge connector on pins that had already been damaged and repaired. Then you can just use spade connectors and hook them to the test points. Some say you should modify the ARII boards to eliminate the sense circuit too.

Dude if you swap that for your Turbo, I'll kick you...cause I just got mine altogether after 3 months and I can't just buy yours now! ;)

*cough* MAME *cough*

That is what I did to mine when I got it. Mine didn't have a monitor and the when I hooked a spare one up there was jibberish on the screen. I still have the original guts and I can reverse it back.

Pole Position is an awesome game. Take my advice and get NVRAM to save your high scores right away. Losing your scores when you power down starts to get annoying. Pole Position blows the doors off Turbo, and I've had both in cockpit form.

nice pickup, john! i'd say you're already coming out on top with it working 100%. all you have to do now is bulletproof it.

What i did or still have to do

switcher to test points on pcb's
2 new big blues
replace fuse holder
nvram for high score save
replace all sockets with new dual wipes
rebuild the edge connectors

after all this she runs solid day in and day out.

I have to agree. I've played a Turbo cockpit as well and it just never did anything for me.

See, I'm the other way... I prefer Turbo over any of the PP's.. Maybe it's nostalgia factor for me.

Many of times when my parents were shopping at Zayre's that Turbo cabaret kepts us preoccupied!!!

There is nothing wrong with Turbo. It's a pretty crazy game. I love how twitchy it is. It's a real reflex workout.
