I was just comparing my Omega Race upright with the two versions in MAME (one version is actually the rom dump from my machine)...and this video:
http://www.vidiotarcade.com/omegarace.html

My machine, and the one in the vid show the graphics to be the standard B&W, while MAME adds a yellow "overlay" when you have artwork enabled.

Does anyone out there have an Omega Race with a yellow overlay on the monitor?

My cab's an upright (serial #116), the vid shows a cabaret, so I'd especially like to hear from owners of the sitdown/cockpit and cocktail versions.

The standard upright uses an amber filter. The cabaret (as seen in those pics) actually uses a blue filter (like Asteroids Deluxe).

OR

I have seen some uprights with the yellow overlay and some with out.Ii just assumed the ones with out were removed during monitor repairs. I have an extra overlay if you need one.

Thanks. I see it mentioned in the manual: transparent vinyl overly - 20" x 13-1/2"...this is? There's also a "formed monitor fishpaper shield" (is that the black cardboard "frame" around the screen?)

Could swear I remember the cockpit used a blue filter also... but that's from a BITD memory so it could be wrong. ;)

You are correct.....cockpit is blue....and as Matt mentioned, so is the mini....the upright is amber (re: yellow).

I've had two separate Omega Race uprights. Both had a yellow overlay.

I believe that shield is the one that prevents light from the under-CP fluorescent from bleeding into the monitor area.

Yup. UR here with yellow. It's pretty close to not changing the color. I think it is primarily used to get the black levels down to the point where the edge of the monitor isn't visible in the silvered glass. Makes it so that the game appears to float on top of the backdrop.

old thread …

Can anyone show me a picture of this overlay . How does it install into the cabinet?

Is it attached to a cardboard bezel somehow is it just static cling to the monitor?

I picked up an omega race and it's missing

I'd like to get one or some sort of reproduction or if anyone has one

Any bit of information about this would be great. Can anyone help thanks.
