Omega Race Upright needs rescuing!!

And if you have, for the love of Pete don't say anything about it, unless you want a bunch of self righteous dicks to jump you for it.

.

You may be right. But I did pick one up recently and took some pictures of it. In case anyone is interested, here's a few pics.

Good luck on bringing another Omega Race back into the world. I can't think of a more worthy project.

Got any pics of the boardset that came in the game?

Holy...

HOW DID I INITIALLY MISS THIS THREAD???

I am waiting for the day John runs into a burning building to save a Tempest. It'll happen someday. Even if he has to step over screaming kids to make sure it's safe...

I missed this one too! Nothing stops jehuie from anything the guy is a beast! Sundance part 2 comming to a theater near you :)

So almost a year after the big rescue and this game is finally working thanks to the help of a bunch of you guys. I don't remember ever playing this game back in the day but it's actually very challenging. And the cabinet is really beautiful when it's all lit up right. I'll post some pics soon. Still working out a very minor glitch with the monitor but otherwise it's fully functioning. I abandoned the original PCB since it was pretty heavily damaged.

Anyone have any players tips? I don't think I'm going to be able to keep the game long-term but I'd like to at least become tolerably good at it before moving on!

If the very minor "glitch" is some squiggling lines from time to time...

...that is normal.

Yeah, I'm aware of that one. When you shoot into the walls you get some stray vectors and I've heard that it's totally normal. My only glitch is that when I first turn it on the monitor sometimes pulses in and out slightly. Once it warms up for a moment it seems to stop. It was doing it way worse before and I adjusted the HV diode and it made it much better so I'm guessing I will need to solder the diode into place to completely cure it. I'm thinking it's just not making good contact.

Finally got the game all put together and everything working as it should. The game went from neglect:

To this....not restored, but certainly presentable!

I just think this game has some of the most eye catching art out there. Wish I could have gotten better pics of the entire cab but it's cramped in the room I'm working on it in.

Here's a few pics from the pickup day. Of course the initial reconnaissance trip was done under cover of darkness and included about 5 miles of hiking, camouflage clothing, dark face paint, bolt-cutters, infrared goggles and a small crack team of explorers led by yours truly. (Thanks guys!) Aside from a few issues like getting lost and having to dodge a couple of guards that were packing heavy artillery, things went well and the target was located and a plan for removal was hatched. I didn't take pictures during this first trip since it was so dark and I didn't have an attachment that would allow me to take good ones.

Ugh, hang on. I'll get to the rest of the story in a few minutes.

Its a very nice looking survivor. Though I'm not sure documenting the whole caper on an open website is the smartest thing to do. ;)

I think that could be converted to a color version, similar to what can be done with Asteroids Deluxe.

It also seems like you were sort of hinting in this thread that this was NOT the game from the abandoned building but then later on you let it slip that it was indeed the same game.

It's a good thing this wasn't something particularly rare.

Yeah, I was just seeing if anyone was paying attention when I wrote that whole thing about the reconnaissance mission. I hope that it was "over the top" enough for people to recognize that but you never know.

Is this trick for converting it to color documented somewhere? I doubt that i'd ever do it since I'd have to track down another K6100 but I'm curious.

I have never heard of it being done with any game besides asteroids deluxe but I would bet it is possible with this game. I would take a look at how it was done in that game and see if something similar could be done here. It would probably be somewhat more complex.

I haven't played that game in decades. I have thought about getting one but it hasn't happened. I would consider one not working but I would prefer it to be in working order.

Well I haven't started advertising this game for sale yet but I will soon, along with Gravitar and probably Black Widow as well. I'm open to early offers if you are interested.
