I have an Omega Race upright machine i just recently acquired. When I first plugged it in I had all my lights but no video, after a little research on the net I found out about the acid damage I should look for. I removed the boards and found very minor acid damage to the top right corner of the board. I neutralized the acid and cleaned the board up a little and re-installed it. Once reinstalled I thought I was in the clear, the game comes up and plays. My test switch was found to be bad, so I jumped it into test mode using the wires, my issue is that all the V RAM and V ROM all test NG. I do have some minor issues with text fading in the top right corner and the trapezoid/rectangle the score is enclosed in jumps off to the right of the screen once you begin game play. I am an extreme newbie to this stuff, but any help would be appreciated!!!

****update****

Swapped in 2114 ram from my ms pac man board and the ram all still test NG. The ram from the Omega Race tested good in the ms pac man machine. Wondering what to do next.... any ideas?

The first thing I would do is look up all the posts by Omegaman. He has several threads on here about repairing acid damage and the ever fun to repair Omega Race boards.

Whatever you do don't ask Friz about it. ;)

Omega race is such a great game. Are you actually getting video showing the errors or are you just getting blinking and the beeps?

robotron- I have looked at the posts by omega man, but it all seems greek to me. I know the 2114 chips would be suspect here, but I do not have the means to test them. I am also looking for some direction on where to purchase them.

musicman- I can actually play through as many levels as I can make it. the game plays well, just these few minor glitches so far. I may be asking to much to have a perfectly working machine. I got the machine for free along with a ms pac man, I have gotten great enjoyment out of the ms pac man and would like to do so with the Omega Race. I am getting the video in test mode along with the beeps.

Upon digging around here a little more, I found that I can find the 2114 ram on ebay at a decent price. Would these work? Motorola MCM2114 P20 2114 Ram 1024

I also found I can can get the programmed roms from hobbyroms.com.

Would anyone suggest just purchasing all of these and popping them in without really doing any troubleshooting?

I would NOT suggest this. What you gonna do when you poop them in and it doesn't work for ya?

You need a way to test them roms or at least verify they are working and have right program.

If you look at omegaman's post you will see that these boards are not for the new tech.

Yeah, you kinda picked the hardest board to fix as your first one to try and fix, LOL. Good news is, if you figure this one out anything else should be easier, LOL!

normally I would say you have a bad socket but the chance of every socket being bad, i dunno... if there was a lot of acid damage yes, but with minimal acid damage... the weird thing is that the game plays fine so it seems like the game thinks the ram is bad when it's not.

Acid damage can go beyond just what you can see. You may very well have to replace sockets because the damage is under them.

I would start by removing all the socketed chips in the acid damaged section
and replace the sockets. You might be getting intermitent connections
causing the glitches and memory test errors you are seeing.
