Omega race PCB repair #4

This board makes me happy I stuck it out with my other set and sent that in for repair. Over the years I've seen much nicer looking sets that mine for sale here, but this thread shows that even ones with minimal acid damage can be complete basket cases. Omegaman, don't burn yourself out on this one set, from the looks of it, you've replaced half the board already!

Whenever mine gets back, I'll be on the lookout for a source of the aluminum triangle brackets that hold the set together. I never did find another set of those. I hope I don't have to make something truly bad out of wood :p

From paying attention to the other posts, I should also get an order together with Mouser or Digikey and get those tantalums out of the power board too.

Love this thread!

Wish I had one of those IC testers.

Those Chinese EPROM programmers will test 74xx and 4xxx series logic. :)

That was one cool thing about my TOP2004. Now the TopMax programmers I have will do it too. I put the chip in and hit auto select. If it fails to find the chip then either it's unsupported (happens from time to time) or the chip is bad. Select the chip from the list and test again just to verify.

The chip testers are cool, but don't always find the bad chip. I have a Ghosts n Goblins here that has been driving me batshit crazy for a few weeks now. I got it running yesterday but it crashes. Knock on wood, I think I have it figured out. It's been running an hour now. (Crosses fingers...)

I'll post what it ends up being in another thread, I don't want to thread crap here with another board issue.

Seriously? Does this work? I have a TOP2005 sitting on my test bench at home that I was going to pretty much write off as unusable due to the fact that I couldn't power it high enough to program 2716 chips.

If I could use it to test IC's, I could breathe new life into it....

Ohhhh cool... Unfortunatly my GQ-4x doesnt have this feature but the
wellon's appear to have it across the entire line. Hmm I might have to pick up
another programmer. This could come in real handy.

Since I am already way off topic.. What chips are more difficult for modern
programmers to program? I know the GQ-4x handles everything but the tri-voltage chips which is why I picked it to begin with. So far its worked great but doesnt have this IC testing feature..

My Old top 2003 will check logic chips and some Ram.

Back on the OR PCB.

I found a bad transistor in the Z output section.....getting closer!

I have a Chipmax and a Topmax. I use the Topmax so much I keep a boxed spare around in case it ever dies.

DAMN! That OR repair is coming right along!

Sorry for not updating on this sooner, crazy work hours at the moment.

There is a problem in the vector timer section or associated circuits.....nearly there though. Hopefully will have time this Sunday to take another look.
