Another set turned up this weekend. The main board looks very clean but has damage to the first 3 video Ram sockets and the 2 video Rom sockets.

I will fit some new sockets and fire it up this evening.

Update on this board.

I replaced the bad sockets, you can see how bad the corrosion was under the Rom sockets.

New sockets fitted.

I then checked all the Ram, 5 were bad. Plugged it in!!

Thought I'd check the power supply PCB over tonight. After linking the sense lines I hooked it up (no game boards and monitor unplugged) The main fuse for the +5v supply blew.
I checked the PCB over and found a suspect capacitor

After removing it and testing it, I found it to be short circuit.

Everything else checks out OK so it should be fine once a new one is installed.

Omegaman,

What is your source for the tiny .01 mf caps? I am collecting parts
to repair my other board and those are the only things I cant find.

Mike

More great posts by OM - keep them up, they are very informative!

Thanks

You reading those right? I thought they were .1uf

Try these:

Mouser Part #: 594-A104M15X7RF5TAA

Yes they are 0.01mf ceramic 50v...I take it you are talking about CP360 near the battery? I have some in my stock of components. I've not bought any recently. You should be able to find some on Ebay or Google.

All these years we've been talking about how these board are impossible to fix, and this motherfucker comes along and doubles the quantity of working games in about 4 days. Unnnnbeeeelllieeevvvaabbbllee.

The Mouser part # I supplied is a good part # for a replacement. It's probably not clear like the OEM part, but it's a proper replacement.
