Well not quite... I got the email today from Alex Yeckley that my board is fixed and he's going to ship it out. I'm so excited. I love Omega Race. Pictures and videos to follow. He lives an hour and a half north of me so I'm expecting to receive it on Sat or Monday. YAY!! I guess I need to install my new control panel and clean up the cab a bit for the arrival of my board. I hope the monitor still works.

Congrats, and you didn't even need to warp reality to do it. :)

You didn't right? :D

I'm going to check out those new wheels thanks for the suggestion. I can't wait to get this game running. I've been playing it on mame and its just not the same. Ill post pics as soon as its together. His email address is [email protected]

Man, omega race is about 5th in line for fixing.....sigh.

Time to speed up the queue. DK is almost finished.

I have to say omega race is one cool looking cab! I had a chance to pick one up for $100 bucks but hearing about all the problems with acid leaking on the boards and so on I didn't get it but the artwork on that cab is sweet!

There is nothing like finally fixing a faulty Omega Race monitor and being able to play the game for more than 20 minutes at a time. If more people got to play this game, there would be a lot more demand for it. It is 100 times more intense than Asteroids or Star Castle. And if you find a willing friend to compete against scores with, it gets more intense still. Try it!

Honestly, I like the game as with most vectors but I don't think it compares favorably to any of the Atari vectors.
I don't like how it almost feels jerky when shooting, wish it shot smoother like Asteroids or AD, the Atari games just feel more polished IMO. I still like the game a lot though and like the use of a spinner type of control, I do hope to one day have a success story like this to post of my very own.:)

Heh, I guess I'm the opposite. I got rid of my Asteroids Deluxe because I just didn't play it. I'm head over heals for Omega Race. :)

Of the vectors we own... I'd rank them Red Baron, Omega Race, Battlezone, Star Trek, Armor Attack, Tempest.

So for me all the vector companies are about equal. :D

Digital Spinner Question

I purchased another control panel for my game because the one that came with it had some pretty bad cigarette burns and I wanted to have some spare parts just in case. The older control panel has the original angle encoder on it. I found a website that shows how to open it up and clean it up to get it working correctly again. The new control panel has the pot based spinner on it but it is missing the A/G converter board. I'm just curious if purchasing the new rotary controller would be any different than the original one that came with the game if I clean it up a bit. I'm expecting to receive the board tomorrow hopefully -- fingers crossed -- so I'll get to test it then. The original spinner shouldn't have the dead spot problems of the pot based spinner and if I clean it up it should last since it's not like this game is going to be taking the abuse it would on route. Do you fellow OR owners have any input on this one? I hate to say it, but 50 bucks is a lot of money to spend on a new spinner if the one i have works. I just want to make sure it's really that much better.

If you can control your ship in a very precise way with that original encoder then I wouldn't bother with the ORDs. BUT, if your ship "jumps" at all when aiming... buy it.

BTW, was that site the Space Encounters site? Just curious if there is another one out there.

Yeah, it was the space encounters site - http://www.outerworldarcade.com/arcade/space_encounters/space_encounters_encoder.html

I'm going to hope the original encoder works because I've already dropped $400 on this machine so far and haven't played one game on it.
