So...for the people that own some of these units are the older ones worth getting.
I was curious if the software, parts, security keys etc. are still easy to find.
A local guy has a pile of untested units for $30-$40 and I was thinking of grabbing a couple.
What do you think....walk away or dive in?

A lot of the time the old ones just have a dead CMOS battery or need a new power supply. Easily resurrected the 2 $25 auction special ones I purchased a while back.

The main pcbs look like they are just a modified ITX style board with a few edge connectors.

Do these need special parts or can I just order parts from say Mouser or Newegg?

i would say depends on the game and how old. I have a few Merits and love them. I wouldn't go older than a Megatouch XL. Games are not that good before that. IMO.

New parts probably won't work, but stuff from the proper era may. I had a 386 based tournament solitaire with battery acid damage and was able to transfer all the cards to a 486 motherboard and it worked.

I have two older Megatouch 6's and still love them. Parts are readily available for them and they're built like tanks. The only problem I've had in over 12 years is the +5v drifted a little once. I adjusted it back and they've been solid since.

The older Megatouch's don't have Photo Hunt, but they do have excellent games on them. My two still get played regularly and I have yet felt the "need" to update to a newer Megatouch.

I have a Megatouch 5 which I love, my entire family gets enjoyment out of playing it. I'll probably look into getting another newer model at some point!
