I bought a set of pin legs a while ago and got around to working on them today. I thought I would put up a couple of pics to show how they look. I first media blast the legs clean of old paint and rust. I next clean the metal and apply a primer. I painted these with a hammered type paint because the metal was pitted and rusted at the start and I didn't want to go through the process of bondo and sanding for an extra set of legs. The hammered paint hides all of the imperfections in the base metal. I then clear coat the legs a couple of times. New leg levelers and they are ready to use. Although they are not the exact color that Bally had used originally they look great and don't rust. It really helps to have an extra set of legs when you start moving pins around or when you find a pin in a barn missing its legs.

I know what sand blasting is what is media blasting? What did you clean the metal with in terms of product and applicator? What kind of primer, I'm assuming it's primer different than what you put on a house wall? My uncle has a big pile of legs all rusted to pieces that I wouldn't mind tackling at some point if it's not a big deal. They've turned all to rust color.

Its basically the same thing, the big thing about doing rusted legs is the amount of rust. If its just surface rust that you can blast (or sand) and then shoot its ok, but its a pain if you get into pitted metal and have to start filling in, at that point I just replace them. I use Rustoleum paint, with or without a primer, but whatever you use it needs to contain a rust inhibitor or they will be rusted again in a couple years

JBK, those legs look good, I like the hammered look. What color are they? Rustoleum has a dark grey (Gunmetal, maybe, cant remember), I bought a can last month to try out, the lid looks like a close match to the old style Bally color, just havent tried it yet

It's Rustoleum Dark Bronze. As far as media blasting, I'm using glass beads in place of sand. The beads last longer, less dust and are less abrasive than sand.
