I was thinking of setting up my own webpage to post various arcade related projects I hope to complete (some day), and I thought I'd see what my options are for doing so?
What kind of software do you use to set up your page? And are there any "free" web hosts out there that aren't scams or are totally useless? If not, who is the best paid host and how much does it costs?

I use 000Webhost.com and have had good success with them over the last 3 or 4 years as a truly free good host. I just bought a .COM Domain for $2.99 and added it on.

I wrote my blog software in PHP from scratch, but I remember my friend setup wordpress on it without any trouble. You get a bunch of SQL Databases, PHP support, and a bunch of other great features for the low low price of free.

Up time is like 99.9% too I've not had any problems with my site being down either.

I'm with domain registry of america (DROA). Average pricing, and hand write my own code. I register my domain for $30 a year with them and that includes free email and webhosting, with more bandwidth than I ever need for visitors even with video.

I use Arvixe since I am playing around with ASP.Net. Nothing really on the site yet though, so I still have the free wordpress.com site. https://paulsarcade.wordpress.com/

I finally figured out that I can code the site OK, but I am never going to come up with a great design. That takes artistic talent that I just don't have. A friend is going to take over the design duties, so hopefully something will be up later this year.

Sounds like you're looking for something more sophisticated, but our site is great for posting multiple pictures of game and you can include a bit of text for a story behind it: http://www.CollectedIt.com

It is free and very easy to add stuff.

I absolutely love the Lite Brite and new Atari neon! :beerchug:

As far as hosting and such... I host my own, buy domains from Go Daddy for cheap... and make crappy hand coded pages in basic HTML.

But it works for me. :D

I am working on a wordpress based site. I only have a couple machines right now, however, I am also showcasing my other hobbies too. As per the norm, time is limited and who knows when it will be up and running. I was thinking about using HostGator or GoDaddy. I am still looking for a really cheap web host to use.

I pay for hosting and write my code in UltraEdit/SciTE. I'm woefully behind as my interest in it comes and goes, and I'm currently in the "goes" portion... Its been around for 10 years with the domain, but since 98 without it...

I'm really thinking of redoing the format a little bit, but haven't done anything past the design stage.

I just have a student project I did a few years ago. Its still live, but it has outdated student work on it. I use bluehost for my website. Its not that cheap ($60 a year I think) but it seems pretty easy to use and allows you to use Wordpress pretty easily.

I used dreamweaver to put most of it together. That can be pricy, but you can download a 30 day trial for free from adobe.

I have a domain and a .com, but its only a static placeholder. The real 'site' is just a forum I set up for workmates and friends to post and BS during the day at work.

I also have a wordpress blog on there, but I haven't updated it in ages.
