Just got a near new Waterworld pin. This thing has maybe 500 plays on it. Why is it not so popular? It looks killer fun. I just happen to be one of the weard ones that like the movie. i think its kinda like an Edsel. Lousy car but oh so collectable...no?

What are your views on this game.......

P.S. Paid 1400.00 for it......

Haven't played it. My pet peeve about Sys3 games in general is that Gottlieb went tits up before they got the bugs out of the rom code.

I think of it as one of those sleeper games.

People hated the movie, although i didn't think it was too bad?? .. anyway i like that pin! It was kind of like last action hero or demolition man... The movies didn't really do too good, but i thought all three of those pins were pretty cool.

I also like it;. well have to say I played it many many years ago when I started playing/collecting pins and wasn't a good player.. so hardly remember anything from game rules. But I remember I liked it. Maybe doesn't have deep rules so long term it can be boring ?

another case of bad movie good pin.imo thats what turns some people off it initially.
if you got a good deal on it and you are enjoying it thats all that matters.

Good question.
The cabinet artwork is as simple and/or lame as most games were.
The translite is gawd awful like so many other games were (The shadow comes to mind) heh
But what's funny about this is the pf theme is really attractive and it looks like there's several nice shots and toys to have a good time.
It had a relatively low run so as far as any ratings go - not many people have played one let alone seen one which includes me. I'd love the chance to play one.

Congrats on your pickup.

I don't get why everyone hated the movie. I thought it was cool.

never played one....never even seen one.....but i just looked it up on pinside.com and the playfield looks awesome!!

fwiw, i've only seen the movie one time and wasn't a fan. if i remember correctly though, one of the biggest reasons it's hated on by critics is because of budget issues....i remember hearing some crazy budget numbers which were gone waaaaaay above (maybe doubled??). it had no chance of making any money from day one.

edit: just looked it up on wiki.....the movie cost around $175mil and made only $88mil in the states. yikes.

i remember i played that when it first came out at a small restruant locally and loved it......i had the chance to buy one very cheap recently and passed on it because i thought i would have a hard time getting a collector who wanted a waterworld. the other reason i passed is because of the 2 large photographic faces on the backglass. i like the old painted backglasses and some of the new translites.....i really loved the waterworld movie though.

theres alot of "bad movies" with pinball machines
twister - loved the movie loved the pinball
waterworld - great movie fun pinball
last action hero - one of my favorite movies of all time , never even saw the pinball in real life
shadow - good mvie, good pinball
demolition man - never saw the movie never played the pinball
judge dread - never saw movie, never played pinball
johnny nmeonic - stupid movie, never played the pinball

im probably missing some

starship troopers.....didn't care for the movie (though it does have a cult following) but i love the pin.

id say yes. i dont know much about the game, value etc. so i will go with whats on ebay right now. there are 3 listed.1 at 2,500.1 at 1,600 and 1 at 1,995.

Yeah, got the one there which was 1600.00, got him down to 1400.00. The best thing though is that the game is absolutly unscaved. New new new...

1,400 for a 16 year old pin in minty condition. killer deal.nice score.

Talk about a flip of a coin. On one hand you have a minty pin but on the flip side an unpopular title "IMHO due to low production run". You always find out how "good" of a deal you got when you go to sell it lol. Seriously, while the production run #'s are low it means nothing if a game isn't popular. It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) it could go either way but most times a person has a tough time getting rid of an unpopular title. Not trying to discourage you but it very well could be a sad reality. Time will tell of course.

It's my personal feeling that pins values don't "appear" to be dropping as fast in value as arcades are.
Not that this tells the condition but gives you more of a "feel" to it's value.

But if this is a pin you enjoy and keep then I'd certainly call it a win!

Maybe, but I think there are enough people into pins that you will always find someone that wants what you've got. I plan to keep this pin for a time since I think its cool and watch the movie for some inspired play time....
