Hey guys,

This is my first time restoring a cab.

I've browsed a few threads here and have noticed that most people use a primer or a black paint of some sort on their bare cabs.

Is it necessary to apply an undercoat of some sort before I apply decals?
Or is it safe enough to apply it to bare timber as seen in the photo.
Thanks in advance!

Wait, you want to put side art on that as it is?!?! Why wouldn't you want to finish it correctly and actually paint or vinyl the cab first???!!

That's what I'm asking,

What do I need to do?
Do I use a primer then paint?

What kind of paint?
Total beginner here.

Ah, got it. Search is your friend here. Try "side art preparation" or "cabinet primer" and see what comes up. There are a ton of threads on it. It also depends on what game you're working on, how you will be painting it, if you're going to use vinyl, etc. Everyone's techniques are different and may vary a bit...

If you're just looking to paint it a solid color- sand w/ 150, primer, sand w/ 220, paint, sand w/ 320, paint.

+1 on the OILBASED KILZ

Foam roll, a light hand sand (400) a 2 coat if nesassary.

Had I thought about it I wouldve done another video on cab prep.
maybe next time.
