I finished primering a generic cab for a 60 in 1.
I intend to paint it black(that's what the woman who is buying it wants)

would it look like absolute crap if I just went the lazy route and
got a can of black spray paint?

sure sounds like a good idea.

Yes (though I'm assuming you knew the answer already).

hmmmm, .........yeah........
not the answer I was hoping for.

Sure was looking forward to a 10 minute paint job.
A quart of good paint it is.
thanks

You can make it look good with a spray can but it will be quicker and easier to get an even finish by rolling it on or spraying it with a HVLP. The amount of effort needed to make a rattle can finish even is insane...

it can look pretty nice, but you'll be taking as much time as rolling it on and the chances of it going south are higher.

If it's matte/satin finish black, and you lay it on its side* to rattle-can it, you could pull it off. Matte helps it look more "even." If you need gloss, you're S.O.L. because it will look like a crappy spraypaint job no matter what you do.

* Laying it on its side keeps the paint from running. ;)

I'll second the previous responses.

Need an easy application?

Like mc300baud said, roll it on. You can do it quickly and cheaply with a foam mini roller or low-low nap mohair roller. The key is to go slow, don't try and slop it on too fast. Also, when bringing the roller to the painted surface, go to a dry place and roll back to your wet edge. It's easier to apply that way and you don't end up smearing around what you've already put on.

Of course if you spend a bit more cash you can buy better quality brushes and roller supplies and you can use them the next time. The better quality painting stuff really does make it look better. However, I do understand the word budget these days.

Just buy a quart of Rustoleum satin black and roll a couple coats, no primer needed. Costs about the same as 3 or 4 spray cans and the results are much better.

Just put some sideart on it!!!

any old NOS stuff will do!

Seconded. This past weekend I tried to cover a woodgrain 1980's stereo "cabinet" with a glass front (the ones with the magentic catch) with spray paint. It took a half a day and five cans of black plus the one can of gray primer. It STILL is not the quality of the last arcade cabinet I painted with a roller and good quality oil based black paint.

Rolling a quality gloss with a foam roller is faster, thicker, more durable, and not too much more expensive finish.

The edging will frikkin kill you though - at least on a stereo cabinet:D

yeah I already bought a quart a couple hours ago, 10 minutes after I
posted this thread, lol.
black semi-gloss, should work huh?
