How do you guys move your games around without damaging them? ive been going over the restoration forums and drewling and many times you guys take the machines outside for nice pictures then down stairs into the basement then into the rows...all this moving around id be scared to death of damaging a corner or scratching something or just any type of damage....especially on the bottom of the cabinets. SO guys what do you use?

Not a dumb question, but I'm probably in the minority when I say once they're downstairs, they stay there. I use a regular hand truck I bought at Home Depot and a bunch of bungie cords. Once a game gets down one flight of stairs, it's not going anywhere unless it's being sold. I don't want to damage my machines either. I'm no Hercules and I can't drag a couple hundred pounds of wood, metal and glass up and down stairs at the drop of a hat. If a machine needs to be worked on, it's worked on just a few feet from where it would normally reside. I don't have any kind of workshop or garage space to store "work-in-progress" machines either. Some are blessed with that space and can do all kinds of cool stuff with their machines and then show off their nice restoration work afterwards. That's probably what you're seeing in these resto threads.

...and have an extra person on hand to help when negotiation steps, doorways, etc...

I remove the monitors and control panels to make the machine 1000 times lighter. You can also install small casters on the bottom to make the machine a lot easier to move around on carpet.

Plus the older you get the heavier the games become, hah. I used to pull games up the steps by myself no problem, now I'm like 'Hmm, I better find fourteen friends to help me move this up that one step'.

Exactly. My wife now refuses to help me with any more machines and I had hernia surgery a few months back. Help is definitely appreciated, but sometimes hard to find.

I recall when I used to have space to move games from the garage into the house. I don't like stairs. I use a furniture hand truck and strap it in good. I always have a friend on the other side.
But it's probably been at least a year now and the projects stay sitting in the garage until I can figure something out. I have about 10 working cabinets, in a non-temperature controlled storage unit - and winter is coming.
But anyhow, I also recall when I was a teen back in the day, that cabinets were alot taller than they are now. To compensate for that, I set all my leg levellers high so that it's the exact same as then. So they are well off the floor.

yea cause thats my biggest fear in a full blown resotation of any of my games...especially my mortal kombat. Id die if after i re-vinyl the front put new art on the side and i need to move it around i take a chunk of wood off or scrape the crap out of something. i mean lets face it they have to be moved at some point in there lives i just want all the moving info i can to help me learn!

Games with built in wheels are a joke to move around (ex. 90's midway games), throw some titan 25 leg levelers or magic slider levelers on it and it glides on carpet (if you have hardwood or a nicely waxed hard bare floor upside down carpet remanant seems to be a prime choice for the collectors i know).

I just got my first cabinet with no wheels built into the back (robotron), so i put it on a furniture dolly while i restore it, after that it'll get titan 25's be put in it's final spot (which has yet to be determined) and hopefully rarely if ever be moved.
