Was it the year long wait? the influx of cheesy toys? the dog tags? the promo post cards? the resurgence of "tron guy" and his public disdain towards the disney company for not recognizing him for the new movie? the very rare and hyped arcade games we see on ebay and craig's list? the painted train at disney resembling the cycles? the tron cupcakes? or the simple fact that only disney could take a treasured and cult like movie (at least in our community) and exploit it to very last dollar???? And I haven't even seen it yet!! am I alone on this one? am I the only one who thinks that something becomes "no longer cool" when it becomes soooo mainstream? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you agree with me chime in!!!

I have not even seen the movie yet. I remember the game as a kid. I thought it always looked cool, but played like crap. Seems like EVERYONE is selling TRON stuff now that it is popular again.

I do remember that it was like this when the first movie came out. It will fade and be a cult following once again. Only with a sequel and a new generation of fans. The american pubic (yes; I meant to spell it like that) has a short attention span.

I thought the year wait was a bit myself but was really happy w how it turned out overall. I was also happy that they got Bridges and Boxleitner back. I hate when movie companies try to bring something back with cheaper fill-in stars. It's a slap in the face to the fans.

And here I expected to see a pic of you all tron'ed out in a motorcycle suit with a tron'ed out motorcycle next to you. ;)

I am almost there too. Maybe if I go see the movie it would help me be more tolerant.

I did'nt see the movie yet.. But too me Tron will allways be that Strange game from the 80's

There was nothing like it then. And then there has'nt been anything like it since.

As far as the market for the toys go, I don't see any difference than when any other Disney film comes out. You know, toys, video games. The rest of the Tron related hype only seems excessive if you are searching it out online. Without the online hype, I don't/didn't see much Tron Legacy promotion in the brick and mortar world.

I was fine with all that other stuff until the movie sucked a dick. Now I just want it to disappear as quickly and quietly as possible.

I still don't get the idea of Tron as a "cult" movie. It doesn't have good acting, and it's not really funny...two things that make up "cult" movies. I know some stoners like to watch it for the colors, but that still doesn't make sense. In 1982, Tron was a publicized movie with a fair amount of merchandizing...not some unheard of independent film. It's legacy is based on our memories from our childhood...much like this hobby. It was never "cool" in any way, shape, or form. If it was with your friends, then you might want to reconsider what your definition of "cool" is, as viewed by the rest of society. That being said, there have been a large number of TV spots, and I think Disney wasted more money than they needed to with it's advertising campaign. The toys matter not, because they do that with EVERY kids/teen movie out there...it's standard practice. If you don't believe me, go check out TRU and see how many action figures you see from ridiculously crappy movies out there...The Last Airbender? Terminator Salvation? Really? If you haven't seen the movie, then it's worth it if you were a fan of the original...I can't see how you wouldn't want to see it. If you didn't like the original, then don't waste your money and quit complaining. There's enough hate out in the world already.

I understand how people that are not fans of tron would be burned out on it around here. Think of it like people who are not into arcade games that we talk to about arcade games. I'm sure they have no interest and tire quickly of if. Most folks haven't really been effected by the hype of the new tron film but in a community where it has a good number of fans, it's a no brainer that it will get a lot of people talking. It will pass. I for one was happy the film was made.

first off i wasn't complaining! I was simply making an observation! an observation I put in this thread with the intention of creating dialogue. some of what I said was tongue and cheek and maybe even sarcastic! Loved TRON as a kid and still do, but as far as I know Disney was a movie company that was suffering, and was the only studio that would make TRON. as far as our "click" saw it it, was a non mainstream movie and waaaay ahead of it's time! thats pretty cool! so we were nerds. not all of us were excepted everywhere and TRON made some of us feel like we had some kind of comradery . what of it? end of line

I'll be the first to admit TRON has been more hyped than I expected and although I should have expected the toys, merchandizing, etc., I somehow didn't because in my mind... It's TRON (a good thing).

I am a definite fan of the original movie and game (why else would I own the two DVD releases of it, educate a younger audience to it, own the game (my mini), and have 4 posters <http://www.rockartcreations.com/scott/posters.htm>), and eagerly anticpiated the new movie. If you haven't seen it yet, IMHO you should even if you are not a TRON fan (it was still a good movie afterall).

On a side note, I intend to buy one of the new TRON posters with the characters standing together like the original TRON and Yori poster (see link below). I went into the Disney store the other day and found it hanging on their wall. When I inquired about buying it I was told that each store was only given one and the Disney store is not selling any TRON posters. The employee seemed very puzzled when I mentioned seeing various versions being sold elsewhere in the mall and on-line including the one I want to buy. Seems like a missed opportunity for Disney, at least in my case. Of course, Disney will get their cut one way or the other, regardless of who sells it. I just thought it was funny I couldn't buy it there.

Actually, I'm too cool to think that mainstream can't be cool.

Alright, alright! I saw TRON legacy last night and in spite of all the "hype" I believed it lived up to it. it dragged a bit in some spots for sure, but the best part of coarse was the return to flynn's arcade!!! seperate ways on the jukebox??? doesn't get better than that (for me anyway) one question though..... how is it that Sam Flynn returns to his father's abandoned arcade after twenty plus years, and not only was the power still on, but every game seemed to have worked, and I can't go a month without one of my games having some kind of a technical failure????? for those of you who just don't get it... the last part was sarcastic!

I seriously considered that one, but will have an easier time hanging a 27x41 poster in my gameroom).

There are a couple of sister companies, one is allposters.com, that I purchased though. Even though multiple sites have the same pictures, the sizes seem to vary so be cautious.
