ok I just bought this crap to restore my taxi, what do you guys think?

Email the seller quickly (Jeff @ Classic Arcades) and ask if those decals are "ink up". If they are ask if you can pay a little extra for the mylared decals.

If you don't get the decals with the mylar on the top then they will scrape pretty easily... of course if you are thinking about clear coating the playfield than this is a non issue.

if clear coating the playfield is a good idea, then I will do it.
He shipped them already, but I will ask the question you posed.

if the playfield isnt too worn, i'd clearcoat the playfield for sure.

yea, if its inkjet it isnt the best but its better than nothing.

clear the cab too !

Jeff of CA is so full of shit. I've been unimpressed with his products in person. That sideart is inkjet, right? Better than a beat to shit cabinet I guess.

Wade

It says the artwork is protected with a layer of mylar

Only go the clearcoat route if you are either:

A. Ready to spend $500-$800 to get a reputable person to do the work

OR

B. You want to try to clearcoat the playfield by yourself and are not totally concerned about the end product

It takes a lot of skill to properly clearcoat a playfield so (B) is not a knock to you but it is difficult to get a smooth nice surface on your own. Also you would need to completely strip, top and bottom, the playfield to send it out to be worked on.

You could install the decals and buy your own mylar to cover them with. If you did this then you would need to remove the insert to apply the decal (actually you should do this anyways) so that it doesn't sit too far above the playfield surface once installed.

Jeff @ CA has had his share of issues with people. Personally I haven't had a problem. I've bought a few things from him over the years. I have a set of Earthshaker insert decals and target decals that look pretty nice for my upcoming ES project.

clear the cab too ! Do what splattergatz says, if you have kids or if kids are gonna be playing, for some reason kids have tendency to "pick" at stuff especially stickers, so stickers on the sides it's just to tempting for kids not to pick at them. Good luck with your art decals. Isn't Taxi cabs suppose to be painted on art with stencils?

We should just discourage everyone who makes reproduction products. Then we'll have nothing. That will be awesome.

I wouldn't clear the cabinet personally.

clearcoating is easy as pie. taking all the parts on/off is the toughest part. i can help you through the process just PM me and ill send you my number and tell you all the tricks.

I didn't say I couldn't do it. I said I wouldn't do it. I was referring to the cabinet.

I also said that I WOULD clear the playfield.

Thanks for the offer all the same.

I think he was offering me (the newbie) advice.
thanks guys

Still a nice offer either way :)

awwwww.

i guess the cabinet would be waaay easier than the playfield. hehe.
no better way to preserve the thing for nearly forever.

i once dropped a pinball onto a clearcoated playfield from about a foot away and not even a dimple !

havent tried to wax a clearcoated playfield yet as i wait a few weeks for the clear to cure. but some say waxing the clear makes it even FASTER.

Are you keeping your Taxi Dylan? I saw you had it listed on CL for 875.00 with your Gyruss for 400.00? Did you get your power up lights working? Mike was over the other night and said he would show you how to fix them but we both saw your ad on CL and didn't understand if u were keeping it or selling it, I thought it was one of your grails. Anyways good luck with your resto. If you decide to take your playfield completly apart draw a diagram on a piece of paper where everything goes and the types of screws if you don't do this it will be a NIGHTMARE putting it back together. I've got 12 pins and I've done teardowns. I would have the playfield proffesionally cleared, if u do it wrong you could trash it for good!

there is wear in spots on the playfield. I need professional helpwith that.

I put it up for sale, but now that I bought this stuff, it's not for sale.

I did not look at the scoreboard yet.
I would love betz to come over and give me a hand.

In case anyone cares. The cabinet art looks pretty good, but
the playfield decals are shit.

And he is giving me a hard time about a refund.
I will report back

That is the Jeff I have heard so much about. What makes them "Shit"? I have a set of Earthshaker decals I just bought from him a month ago and they look great.
