Oh Jeez, I can't even solder on a new power cord without F'ing things up!?

Son of a bitch! So I decided to replace my power cord on my space invaders...no big deal I figured. The old one was all frayed and was a potential fire hazard. I desoldered the old connection (took pics of course to be sure I connected to the right terminals) and soldered on the new connection. Now that damn thing powers up but just buzzes...argh! I checked my fuses and they are good. What the hell could I have f'd up??? I'm not great at soldering but I'm pretty sure my connections are good so what gives? I included a before and after picture. Does anyone have a space invaders to compare?

The original connection has a skinny green wire that was disconnected but I assumed it went with the green ground wire on the power cord so I soldered it on. When the game didn't work I desoldered the green skinny wire since it wasn't connected before and it still doesn't work.

so...
-monitor comes on
-marquee lights come on
-no picture and low pitched buzzing...

Sometimes I want to take a machete to these machines!

heres the pics. first pic is old connection (skinny green wire is disconnected) and second picture is new connection

did you solder it to the rear of the lug,i think in first pic its soldered on the other side, solder it to the same side it was on first time.

would suggest you check your outputs and see if you get any readings,if you dont, reflow the solder where the wires are connected, add a little to freshen it up.

multimeter will tell you whats what.

see what happens.
:)

In your first pic, it looks like the light green wire to the transformer bolt is disconnected. In the second pic, it is connected....

BTW - in that first pic, why does it look like the white/green wire on the right side of the top fuse is looped over back to the fuse holder? That won't do anything...

yea I dunno...the previous owner just has the wire stuck underneath the fuse...I just noticed that too. BUT, in the first pic the machine was working...this is before I did any work. Since my monitor is coming on and I'm hearing a hum, I'm thinking that the skinnier purple, green, or orange wires must power the pcb since that is where they lead...since I'm not getting a picture I assume theres not correct power going to the pcb. The first picture has the green wire disconnected but since there was no other spot for it I assumed it must be soldered to the power block with the power green ground wire. I've tried starting the machine with the skinny green wire disconnected and I'm getting the same result. So frustrating to go from working to non working just because I figured I should replace the cord! argh!

since green is ground should it be going to the ground lug where the white and orange wire are currently soldered on??

Shouldn't the white wire be going to the lug connected to the transformer?

argh! Think I'm overthinking this
