Oh god, what have I done.

Congrats on the find and welcome to the group! The playfield is actually in very good shape for a FG. Most are worn down to bare wood right above the flippers. I believe that the "seams" that you feel are the edges of mylar that have been applied to help protect it. You are on the right road by replacing the power cord and rebuilding the power supply first. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.

Its typical early 80's bally. even the mint ones have playfield wear down to wood because there was no mylar to protect it there. Wish they wouldve taken notes from playmatic in the playfield department. Had a 78 space gambler had a perfect playfield, no fade, no rough spots, really smooth and perfect.

That doesn't really make sense.

You mean having no one play the machine? That would have worked ;)

Makes perfect sense. Ive seen loads of Bally early 80's pins with immaculate cabs and backglass, plastics are perfect everything but the playfield and they always have wear on them somewhere, everyone ive seen so a mint one which is about the best ive seen still has playfield wear.

No... it doesn't make perfect sense. A mint game does not have playfield wear. It's a contradiction. It makes sense for the fact that I can understand what you're saying but it wouldn't be mint if it had playfield wear.

I've seen plenty of "mint" Bally games with no playfield wear. They were mint. I've seen WAY more with playfield wear. They were not mint.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mint
Mint: unused or appearing to be newly made and never used

I realize I'm splitting hairs but you're the one who is trying to claim a complete contradiction makes perfect sense.

EDIT: You could say even the best ones have wear but to say even the mint ones have wear is not only misleading but a misuse of the word "mint".

Either it makes sense or it doesnt, who gives a fuck how it was said it made perfect sense to you and you even admit it. Let it go for fucks sake. If you cant take what I said at face value and realize the point I made which was quite clear, you even admit it made sense, then whats the big deal here? I know what the fuck mint actually means, but its rare to see a early 80's bally anything that is mint without it having been restored. Its a arcade forum not a fuckin S.A.T. exam.

Actually I didn't admit it makes perfect sense to me. It doesn't. It's a contradiction. I said I can understand what you said. No reason to get all pissy about it.

If you know what mint means then you should use the term correctly. You didn't.

Seems like you're the one who needs to let it go. I just pointed out your contradiction. If you want to keep looking the fool that's your choice.

You would argue with a wall if you could but im sure you will come back and say well technically yeah you could argue with a wall and have a conversation with it but technically the wall doesnt speak back so what the fuck ever. lol

It didn't take you long to give up and resort to insults. There was no argument from me in the first place. I don't feel like I need to back up hard facts that are right in front of my face. You're the one who got all defensive.

When I said "it makes sense" I meant that it's english and I can understand the words. To claim a "mint" game has wear makes no sense to me or anyone else.

More frustration then being defensive with you being all corrective over something so asanine its pathetic to even argue further over it. lol You cant even admit that there is an argument going on here. Was simply making a point about 80's bally gamers having playfield wear being pretty much as common as finding a joystick on an arcade machine. I honestly couldnt care less either way just passing the time and trying to help out.

I try to help out here too. I give a shitload of my time and experience for free. I said there was no argument because there's really not. I'm right and that's that. No argument to be had. I would have been happy to just let it go with my original comment. You could have just agreed and that would be that. You're the one who chose to get all defensive and make a big deal out of it. Learn to take some criticism. It might help you grow as a person. If you're going to post misleading information then get upset when someone casually mentions it you might want to re-consider this forum because you're obviously taking it too seriously.

I'm not arguing and have not been arguing the whole time. Like I said there is no argument. Just statements of facts. At this point it's gone beyond your original misinformation and you're just trying to attack me because you're pissed off that I mentioned it.

EDIT: yes, Iove editing :)
There's really no point in restating my original point over and over. My original point was this:

That sentence doesn't really make sense and you should reconsider the use of the word mint.

Take it for what it is. If you want to get all upset about it that's your choice.

Ok fine, youre right, you know everything and you can have the last word. I have to do the same thing with my wife but we all know the truth. lol:)

We do all know the truth. Mint games don't have playfield wear. I don't claim to know everything but I do know that. An argument otherwise is ridiculous. Think about it.

You should really calm down and re-read the thread. I suspect you won't like how you're portraying yourself. If you want me to delete all of this bullshit I would be happy to do so.

I couldnt care less what you or anyone thinks about me, its their opinions. This is all pointless dribble much like alot of threads and post on here, who cares? Where do you get this calm down shit from? lol Im perfectly fine sitting here at work, eating my lunch and passing the time, life is great. Do what you want lady, I simply dont care. Ban me if it makes your day. Im unsubcribing from this thread now, hopefully the OP will have more helpful advice later on and the only apology or regret from me is the fact that Ive contributing to shitting all over the guys thread so on that note yeah you can delete this shit to clean up the thread. If for some odd reason this needs to continue take it to pm im done here.

Hey... I thought I got the last word ;)

Maybe now. hehe

Maybe some more insults? That would be fun.

You can be sure the OP will get good repair advice on his machine. Most likely from me.

EDIT: I'm not a mod. I was offering to delete my replies. If I was a Mod this would already be gone.

Nah...I'm just bored...no work today...At least you guys have been keeping me amused..LOL

That's what I'm here for. Solid repair advice and entertaining bullshit :)

Actually... if you're bored I have about 50 pins that need to be moved from my warehouse to my basement. hehe

Can I go 10 games without something breaking? So far no.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBKwU5IlM8M

Guessing the MPU has bought the farm. This initially happened during a game. A bunch of switches and solenoids started going off, then it tilted and never really recovered.

I rebooted it, it seemed OK for about 30 seconds then repeated the process.

Now it happens every time, at boot.

Suggestions on diagnosis?

Update: Booted it with just J4 on the MPU, problem persists (random solenoids + ming laugh/credit hit).

update 2: Sometimes it recovers from it's crazy, like nothing happened. But usually it goes back into crazy mode again after a few seconds.

update 3: Tap tested the MPU and solenoid boards, but got nothing.

Guys! I think it would have been clearer and made sense if GK said "*otherwise* mint games that had some pf wear."

Have a beer on me, relax, and enjoy your pins. Seriously, have a beer and chill, pm your emails and I'll pp the cost of the beer to yas. No need to get riled about nothing serious.
