OG Pepsi lovers

Just this week my Costco finally had cases of Mexican coke with Cane Sugar. Such a difference. I'm enjoying one right now. Makes me wish I had a vending machine in the collection.

Really good stuff I know. I would love to get an old Coca Cola Vending Machine that holds that glass bottles.

Me & a few friends were just discussing this the other day...does anyone here know exactly when they made the switch to HFCS? They must've been pretty sneaky doing it! But I have to agree-the Throwback is sooo much better tasting...it really does bring you back...

They were sneaky about it. The started switching the fountains over first and then switched bottling plants one at a time. Some conspiracy theorists point at New Coke. Coke is supposed to have made the switch when they brought "old" Coke back.

PS: Booze is only good for mixing with Coke.

So the Dr P is good with real sugar? Its really ironic about this thread, as I was at the store with my GF a few hours ago, and saw the dr pepper for the first time, and she talked me out of getting it because I didnt care for the mountain dew very much...

My local store has the pepsi and mt.dew throwback, no signs of the drpepper. they also have it on sale 5 for 12$, I have a jeep full of it at the moment.

Yep, I remember the New Coke intro well. They had a seriously eroded market share and Pepsi was beating them in the supermarket sales, era 1983. After the uproar, when they brought back the original recipe for Coke Classic, they made all the bottlers (who hadn't already) switch over to HFCS.

I remember that it didn't taste the same and noticed on the ingredient list the change. These days it's Diet Coke for me so I'm chemically sweetened.

Personally, I believe the bottles and pure sugar make the difference. First, the sugar tastes better and isn't as hard on your body to drink it. And second, the bottles keep the co2 in the drink longer and also at higher pressures. So once you crack one open, a good one is usually very stout. So much so, that it will burn your throat. I am also fond of the black cherry bottled drinks whose manufacturer escapes me at the moment. I know they are known for making root beer and cream soda.

I am down to two cases of Pepsi TB, 6 2-liters and 1 of Dr Pepper. I was starting to get worried!

What is always the hardest to get it the Mountain Dew TB, I only bought 3 cases on my first trip, and I never saw it again.

I was always a coke kid in the 80's, but since coke isn't bringing back the original formula Pepsi wins.
It still way better than the HFCS sodas that are out there now, even if it is Pepsi.

My plans for stocking up this time is to save the cans for after the 2 liters are gone. The 2 liters expire a lot sooner than the cans so they're the first to be consumed.

I figured it must have just came back. I'm on vacation and currently in Missouri, and have seen 3 different gas stations with it in the cooler. The MD ones didn't have a date on them, but the Pepsi said Nov 2010, so I knew they were new ones (the last batch I saw, I think the expiration date was July) I agree it's better in a glass bottle though, something about the plastic leaves a different taste (although I still like it. The plastic bottle has the advantage of easy to seal back up if you don't want to drink the whole thing, and great for when you're driving, so you don't spill it :D )

PA Dr. Pepper?

I'm a little outside of Philly and I have yet to see the Dr. Pepper with sugar. I'm seeing some of the 'retro' packaging, but not the sugar.

Costco in Montgomeryville did have Mexican coke a few weeks back. I'm hoping they'll get more in.

Time to hunt for Pepsi!

And you aren't getting the mercury that is in HFCS.

Reason enough to never drink HFCS, but I still do.

The store I got my TB at had a lot more Mountain Dew cases than Pepsi.

Weird cause here in NY there was a lot more of the Pepsi.

Yuck, Mexican water  Portably full of industrial waste. Yes there is the retro packaging DP, but last time there was TB there was also Heritage Dr Pepper.

I think you speak of Boylan... I get those at Costco too. ;)

Edit: Dublin Dr. pepper is the one to get if you can. It is the original recipe and heritage dr. Pepper is not. It is close, but not the same.

We've had the retro Pepsi in my area for months. There was an article on Yahoo a few months back that the drink companies are experimenting with re-adding real sugar because the public is getting weary of high fructose corn syrup because of the health concerns.

While we are in retro mode, I'll take a Pepsi Free and why not bring back the Pepsi Challenge cap game?

We've been drinking the Mexican Coca-Cola from Sam's Club for the past year or so, along with a bunch of other bottled classics; creme soda, grape, strawberry, etc.

Originally I was going to sell this Coke machine I'd gotten at an estate sale, but my Wife convinced me to clean it up and keep it. A little rubbing compound, some wax, and lots of elbow grease, resulted in this, a 1964 Vendo 90. We use it every day and it's been running for months without missing a beat, nothing beats an ice cold bottle out of one of these. This pic is before I rubbed out the paint:

I thought all of the throwbacks tasted more like diet. Maybe the artificial sweetners actually DO a good job of tasting like sugar. I hated diet. Maybe diet should try to mimic HFCS instead of sugar to taste like sweetened soda.

That is sick and true, HFCS tastes nothing like sugar.
