Official PC Bragging Rights Thread (Pics or You're Lying!)

2.5 months at a time on Win98 sounds impressive. I remember having to reboot those weekly.

I've used antec cases for my last three builds. I have the one your using housing the "upstairs" rig. I kept an old one and am patiently awaiting hand me down parts to make another one for whatever need pops up.

Well, my build was not so successful over the weekend. Either the mobo or the ram is bad. After some research, it seems that the ram I got is hit or miss with this board. It's not on the QVL, though I believe the 1GB and 2GB versions are. I've talked to some people who never could get it to work, and others who got it to work with no tweaking at all. Others just have problems with the mobo all over the place. Right now I'm trying to identify which I need to RMA :p

It's less work to swap out RAM than it is to swap out a mobo.... ;)

Yeah, but doing a bit of research, I'm not sure which I'd rather take my chances with. I'm leaning more towards the board being bad at this point, but I need to test with different ram for verification.

I just put together a new PC for general use and gaming... Intel i7 950 on an Asus Rampage III Formula, with 6GB Corsair Dominator GT CL7 DDR3 1600MHZ. I've yet to get another video card for it, I was looking at a 580 GTX but they're very hard to get hold of at the moment, so the machine has my old 8800GT in it.

I've always been a huge fan of Lian-Li cases, my last PC was built in a classic PC-60 (AMD X2 4800+ with 2GB Corsair Pro RAM, which now becomes my wife's PC). For the new PC, I have a Lian-Li PC7-FNWX. Anodised black inside as well as outside. Build quality is superb, and the system is really quiet. I'm not keen on the whole side window thing, but I wanted the USB 3.0 case.

Bumping this because the build that started this thread died last night. Preliminary tests point to PSU failure but it could just be a short someplace. I planned to work on it tonight but when I got home the AC was running at maybe 70% so I just can't get into it when it's this hot in the house.

Besides, all I would on it is either work or maybe play Borderlands 2, so I guess I'm not missing much.

Since you mentioned Borderlands 2.. I re-built a friend's PC over the weekend. He'd been running BL2 on a single-core CELERON 2.2GHz. Granted, it took him 5 minutes to load a level, and he couldn't host without everyone being in slideshow mode, but it ran. Found a spare CPU, a quad core Q6600 at 2.4GHz from 2007, another motherboard, and an NVIDIA-based GTX460 graphics card and combined with his new case and PSU (he was running a Dell, proprietary case/PSU so F that).

The motherboard I picked for him had the PSU connector closer to the top of the board than most others of it's kind.. bad because this case had the PSU on the BOTTOM and the geniuses who packaged it with the PSU didn't make sure the cable was longer to compensate for the unusual placement. Fortunately had 3 other motherboards that were compatible and got him running. Going to play some BL2 tonight with him on the new rig, can't wait to see what his experience is with it.

My current gaming rig:
GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics
ASRock Fatal1ty Z77 Professional-M LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
1 x OCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
7200RPM 1TB Hard Drive for misc storage

heres my new build dedicated for iRacing

*Thermaltake Armor A30 MATX Case

*Asus F2 A85M Pro motherboard

*AMD Athlon X4 750K Trinity 3.4GHz Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop Processor - Black Edition

*COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus RS700-PCAAE3-US 700W ATX 12V v2.3 Active PFC Power Supply

*G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 4GB x2

*SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100352VXSR Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

*Western Digital WD Blue WD3200AAKX 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

the goal was to use AMD Eyefinity (3 screens one card) and keep it cheap enough

I haven't put anything into mine in awhile, and I don't go top of the line as it's nothing but flushing money down the toilet...I also don't listen to min specs, as those apply to people who have their systems loaded with bloatware running in the background.

Case - Zalman Z11+
Motherboard - ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CPU - AMD FX-4100
RAM - G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)
Video card - MSI Radeon HD4890 1GB GDRR5

Couple 1tb drives and dvd burners, all my storage is in my server down in my basement. Power supply is a Rocketfish 900w modular unit, apparently the same as a Hunkey x7 900...solid supply, not sure exactly what atm as it was gifted to me by my father inlaw.
