I'm sure those of you who occasionally sell a game have encountered an odd potential buyer.
I've encountered a few myself.

Yesterday I got a call from a guy about some games I listed in the trading journal. First off, he says he has no cash. Fine, I am willing to hear trade offers. He keeps saying "maybe we can work something out, you know?" I thought that was kind of odd, but okay. Then he pulls the usual 'maybe we can do a payment plan'. Yeah buddy, I'm gonna give you my game and expect you to make payments. Riiiigggghhhhttt.

Then it went back to the "maybe we can work something out" bullshit. He then maybe we can trade...but didn't offer anything. I kept trying to tell him to OFFER something in trade, but he wouldn't. WTF? Was I being indirectly propositioned for drugs or something? Did someone sneak my phone number to Phet? What gives?

I have another interesting one from email last week too. I'll refer to her as the 'charity case' buyer. She really went around the horn though. That story to follow when time permits. In the meantime, some of you post your oddball buyer stories. Maybe we can compile a list of generic names for them.

Did he mention 420 at all casually in correspondence? :D

You didn't hear dueling banjos in the background, didja? :D

The best I can do is, one time there was a fellow in Nigeria... :p

Man, what a self centered bastard that guy was!

Actually, I sold a couple games to some serious Cholo gangster types and they offered me fully automatic weapons in exchange. I opted for the cash.

I post a CL ad every few months for a game trade. Every time, I get an offer to trade whatever I happen to have up for a Paperboy. We email back and forth a few times, then I never hear back from him until my next trade post. He always seems to have a good reason for losing contact, but it just keeps happening. It is actually getting a bit annoying; I want the Paperboy! :)

Not from a buyer but I picked up a MK II from a really creepy guy in West Virginia once.

I don't even know where to begin on that one. :p

I've had some guy in PA offer me 20 something GI Joe dolls, and some 60's era robot for a game. He's made the same offer twice about a year apart. Apparently those 'highly valuable' collectibles of his aren't moving.

you might want to rethink the 60s joes. I have been a long time vintage toy dealer and some of those joes from the 60/70 can get really high in price. I have sold 60s joes for as high as $1,200. keep in mind thats for the rare stuff.

I was a little worried as i was reading this thread and seeing your avatar in the bottom corner knowing you posted something. Glad it wasn't about my creepiness! :D

Very funny Warlord!

These weren't 60's Joes - I would have considered that. This is a set of the 21 collectors series that came out a few years ago. They occasionally sell on ebay, but I doubt I would recoup my investment. Even if I did end up getting my original asking price, it would be a hell of alot more work. Why doesn't the guy just go ahead and sell them himself?

I love the ones that say they are 15 to 20 minutes away and don't show for 2 hours.

Fucking creepy bastards.

This is why I prefer to throw the stuff in the truck and meet on some store's parking lot out in public. You don't show up then the next person gets it.

Damn timewasters.

I had a guy pull out two pill bottles (IIRC, he said one was percocet and the other was xanax)....he wanted to trade for his repair bill.

It's no wonder that shit gets sold so much. I got a prescription for percocet a few weeks ago for a minor surgical procedure. I needed the pills for 3-4 days at 3-4 pills per day....the prescription was for 45 pills!

Yeah, when I had my kidney procedures a couple years ago....I probably ended up with a years supply....unused.

That would be a proposition. If it had been for 420 supplies or guns, he would have laid down some discreet slang or something. Me thinks he was wanting to trade some man love.

Years ago I had a guy come over to look at a bare cabinet for 35.00 and he him hawed around for 45 minutes. I finally said hey I have things to do you need to decide. I was about ready to just give it to him.He eventually bought it.Its like my god its only 35.00 pull the chord lets go allready.....Dont worry he wasnt a collector he was a mame dude.
