Lately, I've been tinkering with the idea of putting together a small arcade filled with titles most people have never heard of - being obscure, forgotten, or never officially released in the west. It would contain around 12 cabs (the majority candy cabs), and the only restrictions are that the games must be quality and they have to be fairly uncommon. Also, I have nothing against the classics, but I think most games are going to hail from the mid 90's through today. I've compiled a small list of interesting titles so far, but I'd like to get as much input as possible when it comes to title suggestions.

This is the list of titles so far:

The Outfoxies
Elevator Action Returns
Parodius/Parodius Da/Sexy Parodius
Exception
The Act
Donkey Kong II: Jumpman Returns
Guwange
Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
The Typing of the Dead

Two of my favorite side scrolling beat 'em ups that most people have probably never played:

The Ninja Kids - Taito 1990
Hammerin' Harry - Irem 1990

Both had just released by the time I made a trip to S. Korea the summer of '91. I remember those two, Snow Bros. and SFII were all very popular. But those would be the "rare" ones of the lot.

All excellent choices for sure. And if you could only pick one of those, I hear Radiant Silvergun is the pinacle of shootemups. But I would also like to suggest another title that is VHTF and worthy of a spot IMO. Nebulasray. Namco, rare system, and you can always use a vertical cab setup to swap between it and Radiant Silvergun or Ikaruga. As for rare odd games, if you like Beat em ups but want something odder/rarer than Final Fight, you should look at Night Slashers.
Without a doubt:

Radiant Silvergun
ikaruga
Dodonpach, Espgaluda or other cave shooters...

this is correct. But need to add

crap age 1992-present

Lets just end this thread now. The games you speak of suck.

Sorry to piss people off, but lets face it...originality died in the mid eighties. And originality is what makes for a classic game. Not a remake or a street fighter clone, or yet another shooter or driver, or the answer to the home console threat (a behemoth of a simon says stomper). Sell crazy someplace else were fresh out.

Why would most games hail from the mid-90's? If you really want oddball stuff, you'll never match originality and uniqueness of the early 80's. The two that come to mind immediately are:

Wacko
Orbitor 1 (Stern pinball game)

If you want some good game play for games people have never seen or heard of, I'd have these (that is, if you can find them):

Popper
Beezer

Some ideas:

Marvin's Maze
Looping
Sundance
Cosmic Chasm
Rip Cord
Side Track
Victory
Pirate Pete

I've had sort of a fantasy of an oddball arcade too, although I'd like to recreate some prototypes and give a few conversion kit games their own custom dedicated cabs.

Thanks guys!

These responses are exactly what I was looking for. It just shows that the old adage is true: The best way to learn about something is to ask!
