Hello Monitor Gurus,

I have an interesting issue that I am trying to figure out. I have a Matsushita TM-202G that was originally in a Pole Position project I picked up several years ago. I had a spare G07 at the time and focused on getting the game up and running with the G07 and never bothered with the Matsushita because I didn't have to at the time (plus if it was the flyback, I was probably SOL anyway). So the Matsushita just sat collected even more dust than it already had.

Recently I circled back around to it because I needed a monitor that supports positive sync for another game, so pulled the G07 and repaired the TM-202G to put in my PP2. Long story short, I repaired the neck board (it was snapped in half), and later also did a cap kit on except it for the B+ filter cap (I have a new B+ cap from Arcade shop and repairs, but the legs don't line up with the holes in the chassis, not entirely sure the best way to install it).

After the neck board repair, but before the cap kit, I tested the monitor with a monitor tester and everything looked fine. When the monitor is connected to either my PP or PP2, however, the very top of the picture is bent to the left. This issue follows the picture size and is not isolated to the top of the actual monitor screen. I had planned to do the cap kit anyway and figured I would go ahead and do that, but after the new caps, I am still seeing the issue only if the monitor is connected to one of the pole positions. Again with a test signal it looks fine.

Since the picture looked fine with the tester even before the cap kit, I would think the remaining original B+ cap would not be the root cause (but what do I know? :) )

Any ideas?

I attached a few pics of the issue as well as the monitor with the tester connected.

Thanks in advance!

show me the signal plug you're connecting to the monitor
Here is a pick of the plug from the video PCB into the monitor as well as the best I can get the picture to look currently.

If I adjust the horizontal position as far to the left as possible, it almost gets rid of the issue. Adjusting it to the right takes the issue to 11. If I have the picture more in the center of the screen, I can also "move" the issue off the screen if I increase the vertical size enough, but that just masks the issue as well as cutting off the top of the score, lap time, etc.

While having the pic all the way to the left looks OK, I have to shift the entire monitor in the cabinet to the right to get the picture in the middle of the monitor shroud. I can live with that if I have to.

that is correct yes good

So I am going to leave it like this for now. Adjusted it as much as I could to hide the bend. Hate that the monitor is physically shifted over in the cabinet, but unless you open up the cabinet or read this thread, you would never know. Just have to remember the monitor is not bolted in if I move it! :ROFLMAO:

I appreciate the help on this one!

you definitely need to bolt it in. I've seen monitors from Pole Positions not bolted in where the neckboard was in 6 pieces. I've been lucky that I fixed every one of those I've come across.

they're going to be 3/8" thread carriage bolts with 7/16" nuts, and I encourage getting fender washers that fit with lock washers too or at least kep nuts

Yes, I will figure something to bolt it down in the position it is in. I don't like the idea of it being free to move around within the cabinet even if it is going to be sitting still for the foreseeable future. I had it bolted in originally, just as I had the G07 before swapping, thinking I could adjust the issue out (which I technically did).
