Flat panel monitors do have a mounting standard, and Wikipedia lists most of the variants: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Display_Mounting_Interface If they aren't M4, they are probably M6 or M8, but most monitors I've seen have the 100mm layout, and thus the M4 screws.
