Here is a strange one, I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on.

I picked up a pac man a couple months back. Someone had dropped a 19" Kortek
K1-2-VOA color replacment monitor into it. Not MY first choice of a monitor, BUT...
It is supposed tp be only a couple years old. I had it in my garage for a month or so this summer while I did a partial resto on it. No problems with the monitor. I brought into the house. A couple weeks ago, I noticed the bottom left part of the screen was fading a bit, pac man was almost white while, the ghosts lost their color, and the maze was faded to a light purple. I thought maybe it could need a cap kit?
Fast forward to yesterday, and I had the machine turned a bit to the left to I could get into the back, and happened to notice the monitor was REALLY bad, worse than I'd ever seen. I didn't think too much of it, other than I was going to have to recap it soon, as the problem was getting worse quickly. So I put it back in place, and WALA, the fade was almost GONE! So I sat there turning the machine to the left, and then back to the right, and you can watch this area go from perect to CRAP with a 90deg Clockwise turn of the machine! PLEASE SEE PICS
First Pic is at 90deg to the left, the next, only seconds later almost straight on, with the back against the wall.

WHAT GIVES?!??! What on EARTH would cause it to do that? Some kind of interference? I tried moving the power cord around a bit, nothing. Litterally the ONLY thing that is different in these pics is that the machine is rotated 90deg to the left in the ones with the fading, straight against the wall in the others?
THOUGHTS!?!?!? I am perplexed!!

That's it?
How does one go about doing that? I havn't had the honor of attemting that yet.
What does turning the machine 90deg actually do to cause that fading?

You got it right from the start-
probably slight interference from the Earth's magnetic field.

The monitor is equipped with an automatic degauss circuit that should remedy this by turning it off and on a few times after letting it cool in-between.

(the degauss circuitry is only activated at power-up)

Very common. The Earth's magnetic field affects all color CRT tv sets and monitors. The built-in degausser only works for minor magnetization problems. Remember, the tv/monitor must be off for at least 30 minutes for the thermal switch to cool off. Then when you turn the power on again it will apply power to the built-in degausser coil for about one second.

If the internal degausser is not strong enough, then you need to buy a handheld (manual) degausser coil from sources like Bob Roberts.

BTW - you get better monitor pic results if you turn off the flash, although it might mess up the focus. Here's one I took tonight with no flash:

Well this thing acts this way from the second it is turned on to the second it is turned off!
To be honest I was pretty blown away when I saw that thing changing before my vary eyes, when the only thing I was doing was turning the cab. I thought maybe there was a crazy high EMF in my wall, or floor/basemnt that was causing it!! I never even considered that it was the EARTH itself! I will do some research on degausing and get that tool from Bob.....Thanks Guys,

Matt
