NTE out of business?

Fry's Electronics in the Bay Area used to stock NTE components, what little replacement work I did with it was fine...

I was out there recently and man, I miss Fry's. The one on East Hamilton was my jam.

The place just had such a vibe. There's no describing it to anyone who didn't experience it. It's genuinely sad that there are geek kids out there who will never get to experience going to a Fry's and just killing time looking at stuff.

I agree, Fry's was definitely an experience to have when in Silicon Valley - I do feel Fry's had been in steady decline once one of the VPs was caught embezzling $65M to pay off gambling debts, so it was no surprise to me when it finally closed up shop. The last few years they were selling non-electronics toys and perfumes on mostly empty shelves. Such is the way of things.

My favorite stores were mostly favorite cause they were closest to me -the one in Sunnyvale which had a history of Silicon Valley theme, the Palo Alto one that had a western/cowboy theme and the Mayan Temple one in San Jose.

I feel there are few places where you can go to 'buy it now' for electronics components - we have Anchor (https://anchor-electronics.com/) in Santa Clara but their hours don't usually work for my schedule.

I have a few NOS NTE items laying around, still in the original plastic bags. Lemmie know what you are looking for and maybe I'll have it.

There are likely still places in Japan and in China that would put Fry's in it's glory days to shame, but it was pretty special none the less. Sadly i never lived close enough to one and only managed to visit one once. Just like i only visited Akihabara once and saw one of their mega stores.

NTE was owned by the same owner as solid state and they went down hill when the original owner died and just spent (i am guessing a couple years) selling off stock and finally closing up.

So typical. Corporate raiders can piss off.

My biggest pet peeve is private equity firms. Their very openly expressed business goal is to acquire companies then extract every cent from those companies and permanently shutter them as quickly as possible.
