Thank you to everyone that has supported all the various preservation efforts around here over the years.

Now there are two ways to support preservation efforts: to the Museum (new), and to the Library (existing)

To support the Museum (or to support the Library), please see: https://www.arcade-museum.com/contribute

To support the Library, please see https://library.arcade-museum.com/

For many years, the Museum (web site and forums) has encouraged our followers to support the independent International Arcade Museum Library. The Library works on special projects, from scanning projects to exhibitions. Some of the Library projects continue on an ongoing basis, but many of the largest projects are longer term (like the exhibitions). As such, the Library has managed to save a large part of the $ contributions made to date (a mixed blessing). Further details on this will be the subject of other threads.

The Library however, does not manage nor has any connection to the message forums, nor to the main web site (including the KLOV encyclopedia, and VAPS).

The main site and forums projects continues to run at a substantial and unsustainable deficit. In the last year and a half alone, as we've worked to modernize the site and more, this deficit is running over $100,000/year (in previous years, which substantial, it's been much smaller). As such, it's clearly long overdue to ask for your help to directly support the main site and forums.

Additionally, we have many $1 donations that people make simply to join the forums. It makes sense for these (tiny) funds to go to forum support. In addition to having nothing to do with the operations of the forums, the high rate of fees (about 50% on a $1 donation) on such small donations pulls done the 'efficiency' of the Library entity (as those fees are not funds spent on programs), thus potentially impacting the reputation of the Library. Non-profit charities are publicly judged in part on their efficiency.

Longer term, the web site itself may end up being run by a non-profit entity. This is a complicated process, because the transfer of the web sites may also be accompanied by the transfer of a physical museum collection. While the planning process on ensuring a great future for the web site and a collection are picking up speed, it's still become clear that just the planning phase is expected to take at least several years.

Please consider donating $1 to $1,000 to $10,000 or more, to one or both of the following:

* The WebMagic fund for the Museum of the Game main web site and forums.
  1. This is the way to support the main site and forums and show your love.
  2. It will help us to continue to improve the main site and forums.
  3. 100% of donations (minus PayPal fees) go directly to the supporting the site.
  4. Donations are generally not tax deductible. They might be a business marketing expense for some (consult your tax advisor).
* The International Arcade Museum Library
  1. This helps support special projects (like archive and manual scanning), special event development, and more.
  2. 100% of donations (minus PayPal fees) go directly to the Library
  3. Donations are generally eligible to be tax-deductible (consult your tax advisor) and are eligible for employer matching programs.
Notes:
  • The donation fruit symbols and years donated are primarily and prominently features of the forums. They will continue to appear, and will include support to either organization.
  • The Library web site will continue to provide tax receipts for donations made to the library. The Museum will likely provide its own receipt features. Each will not include donations made to the other.
  • If you log onto the Museum's web site, and click on 'Account', and then Stats, it will provide you will information about your profile, and will give you a information on how much you have donated separately to each of the two organizations (Library stats included only for convenience and to make it clear that the 2 organizations are different).
