(Now with more pictures!) The Static Ant Arcade - Construction

Hey hey!

I figure its about time to get a post going showing the progression of the Static Ant arcade. All the work was done by myself, beer, and the occasional friend I could rope in.

It started as:

Which had these cabinets, plumbing, electrical all in the mix

Knocked out the cabinets, capped the plumbing, moved the electrical, and tore out the closet producing lots of waste:

The ceiling in the closet was not the same hieght as the surrounding ceiling so that had to be dealt with. Also I needed to extend the header to match the rest of the wall:

Removed light, fixed ceiling height, started header:

The wall inside the closet also did not match the surrounding thickness of the drywall so that also needed to be corrected:

I reused all the wood I could from ripping out the closet to rebuild the walls and the header. I also reused any scrap of drywall that I could to save on costs and not have to throw a ton of shit out. Thus the multiple pieces of drywall all stitched together.

After much work...

A look into the room. Yes it was that packed nearly the entire time. It was a pain in the ass but beat renting storage. My tools were all in the living room so that space was already full.

Getting some paint on. "Yarrow"

These are the stairs going down to the garage aka the arcade.

The starts of the wall stripes:

The paint! Before pulling the tape

And After:

Also some ceiling paint. The windows I pulled the trim on and primed thus far:

The back door to the patio connected to the arcade:

The door to the kitchen:

The trim!

I boiled the original vents to strip the paint and reuse them:

Turns out well:

Getting the windows painted:

Working on a cover for the plumbing access. I plan on making a nice looking door for it:

Getting some trim on:

Trim is on working on some lights:

I ripped out the typical shop lights to put in in-ceiling lights with 3rd gen hue bulbs:

Close up of the stripes:

Trim on the windows:

The saw!

More to come soon!

Took all the games out to the driveway:

And then the room was pretty clear!

This is behind the picture above:

I just ripped out the tile and moved that black foam so the floor is clear now. Ill take new pictures when I get home.

Getting the carpet tile on. Not my first choice but I plan on upgrading later

A test fit of some of the games. They are dusty and it makes me sad:

Nicely done! It's great getting to see what other people do with their spaces. Great job, don't let the dust get you down!

Was this a plumbed in "space" off of your garage?

Someone put a finished sink in a garage in IL? (And it never froze... or cost $$ to heat?)

Or is this more of a hobby workshop/space that had a garage door for large projects?

I'm trying to understand how this space came to be before you remodeled it back to the 70s/80s with yellow and color stripes. What a time warp you have going. :)

The garage at some point was cut in half so the front portion with the garage door was a typical attached garage. They walled it off in about the center and the back was a bedroom/efficiency apartment I think. They even wired up another doorbell for the back porch that it connected to just for that room. It had a sink, closet, windows and they have 2 overhead vents and 2 floor returns in that area so it stays nice.

Ill upload some more pictures so you can get a feel of what it was. :)

Here is a shot with my back to the garage door:

And then the unfinished part. I plan on carrying the theme over to this side soon:

The garage is attached and all brick with heating so freezing pipes wasnt a huge concern for me. They also had it shut off and disconnected when I bought the place.

Here is the sink, cabinets and closet I ripped out:

And then the rest of the room before the renovation:

This pic looks REALLY good! Aside from the background colour, that's pretty much what I talked my wife into letting me do in our dining room(where my cabinets are). I want to do a "Time Out" style theme, very similar to what you've got going on there. The only difference is that instead of the stripes being straight across the wall, they'd be more like this:

The only difference would be a space in between the stripes, like what you have going on there.

I'm digging what you've done, though. It looks great!

Thanks sire!

I wanted to do some bends in the stripes at some points but they would be covered by games and thus I elected not to. My goal was to keep the stripes high but always be completely cut off by the windows and never have a stripe or part of one have to go over a door frame, etc.

Ill post some updated pics when I get home. Its a mess again but its progressing nicely
