now this is why i mention my hobbies to people i meet

Hehe. Im so happy. I met a dude off of craigslist to buy some old $5 crt tv wall mounts.(they work perfect for modern video projectors)

I mentioned "hey do you know anybody with arcade games, pinball machines, non working flatscreen etc etc? Im a mechanic by day and an electronics junkie by night"

He says not really but i used to work for motorola and have some equipment i might sell.

THe equipment?? Just a hakko hot air rework station and a pace soldering/desoldering station :D

Haggled on price, $75. I know the hakko works we tried that. Unsure of the pace station. Not a screaming deal but still a good deal imho. Did i really do good or have i been had? The pace is missing some glass tube thing that catches the solder i guess, i dont know much about that unit. I have both the solder iron and desolder iron, a pedal, some tubing, and a tylenol container full of new tips or various sizes.

me = happy

PM me your address tonight. I have one of those older, thick glass tubes for older handpieces and it won't fit my SX-70 desoldering iron.

I'll even toss in a couple of the plug filters for it and an S Baffle.

wow for real??? that would be sweet!!!

I tested out the hot air rework station, that thing is the cats a$$..

the desoldering station: the vacum pump works great but no heat on either iron. No ac power to the irons. Checked and i had 120vac into each "heat adjustment" pot and pcb assy but no power out. rapidly turned each on and off, mustve been oxidized now i have power and both irons work fine. THis thing has been in this duded garage for who knows how long so im not suprised.

With some new tubing and some new pieces i should be good to go on this one too.. WHOOOOOOO

Not a screaming deal but still a good deal imho.

When I read this, I wanted to piss myself. :) I have been wanting a Hakko rework station for a while and just can't ever find one within my price range. Great find man, really awesome.

YEah me too. Its been on my list for a long time it really has. I think back to all the tiny smd krap i had to do with a regular iron, i cant believe i finally have this stuff.

I do tvs and stuff as well as the arcade stuff, so the need for smd repair equip has really grown for me lately. Im so happy i finally have this. Its been a LONG time coming.

After pricing the hakko, i kind of feel bad now. I knew this stuff was not cheap but damn its an expensive unit.

Don't feel bad, the guy wanted it gone, you helped him out.

I've been trolling for a deal like this locally for a while but all my CL buyers kinda look at me like i have 3 heads when i ask for old tv's and arcade related items lol.

BTW i forgot to mention, THIS IS F'N AWESOME!!! i'd love to have those tools (not that i know how to use them but i'm sure i could figure it out :D ).

luckily for me i have tons of junk tv boards etc to plenty to practice with.

Ive already learned not to hold the hot air pointing down directly at the piece, it gets to hot it pops the fiberglass in the board lol

works great though, almost cant wait untill my first smd ic change..
