Ok so I got my first pin this weekend. Scooped up a Dolly Parton. A member on these boards was really nice to meet me at the convention on Friday and teach me some stuff about pins. Then he came over on Saturday to check out the pin I was buying to make sure the condition of the pin I was buying was worth the price I was paying. Its in excellent condition. The back glass is as close to perfect as you will find. Everything works, well it did when he dropped it off and hooked it up. Since then two bulbs have burnt out but not a big deal. Its very clean. In the ad he stated that the playfield was cleaned and waxed. I was worried I wouldnt be able to tell if it was or not. However I got to play a dolly parton at the convention the day before. It was in ok shape, but not nearly as nice as mine, and it made me able to tell how nice mine was. The playfield has the typical ware in the typical locations. The mylar has a few small lifted areas, but doesnt look like the paint came up. Also the majority of the inserts have sunk just a bit, but nothing horrible. I was told its would be an easy resto on this machine, if I was doing that. However this machine is destined to become a Lost Vegas.
Over all I am enjoying having my own pin. Learning how to operate and adjust the machine. I think this will be a decent first machine. Its as simple machine with simple rules. So good for me to practice my flipper skills, and probably good practice on repair and maintance since its not a complex playfield. I will get some photos up later. And will definatly post photos of the conversion as it progresses.
