Last night I played Star Wars on the MAME setup in my Monaco GP cockpit. I enjoyed it and am now taking suggestions regarding a yoke configuration for it.

The game currently has a steering wheel gas pedal setup so I'm wondering the following:

1. do I do make some kind of setup where I remove the wheel and replace it with a Yoke CP?
2. do I leave everything as-is and use some kind of wireless yoke setup if possible?

If I can't make it work, no big deal. It was just nice playing SW in a cockpit again, after many years.

Save yourself the time and money and take my advise: DO NOT ATTEMPT.

Now, if you already had some game that had a yoke, different story....

This is all YOUR fault! I watched YOUR video!!! :p

Mooohahaha!

To be fair though, the Lock-on already had the yoke, it just needed a new pot for all Y-direction movement.

After you take the time to gut out all the current steering mechanics, you'd have to find a new way to mount the yoke. And then of course, you'd have to buy a yoke. There are two games which have popped up a couple times in my local CL zones. One is the Lock-on cab (which mine was) the other was Apache 3. Either one is a great candidate, but both are upright.

*if* you *do* - IF - you do this, let us know. I can't find a SW locally to save my life, at least not affordably, and would like to know about alternatives.

Look up sidewinder hack, works great with a Yoke controler

Yupper. Exactly what I did on mine.

Great tutorial here. It was extremely easy to do. But you'll still need to find a yoke cabinet for this to work. IF you do this (anyone reading this) be sure to set all the button configures BEFORE you hack it apart. LOL. Dammit.

I eventually sold the SW MAME cab off to the same guy who bought my 60-in-1 Ms.Pac and my XBOX cab. Wasn't really wanting to sell it, and I only decided to let him have it for what I had into it because I located a nice pre-converted Firefox cabinet elsewhere. I was going to tear out the Choplifter conversion kit, but still use the same method of hacking and MAME in there. The reason for the upgrade? The Firefox had the true "Star Wars" style yoke (with the narrow handles). My Lock-on had the thick "Assault" style handles. YOu could feel the difference immediately.

.....then of course I sold the project cab off before the 2nd attempt. *sigh* oh well.

Thanks yeah I had seen that as one example but I was just wondering if there was anything out there aftermarket that anyone had run across.

Sadly, the RAM Controls yoke and USB card was a perfect solution for what you're trying to do. I sold mine months ago, and for obvious reasons wouldn't recommend ordering from the company any longer. Hopefully you can pick one up via a third-party... it worked great.

In terms of mounting ideas, the yoke is a perfect fit on a Road Blasters cp. Not that I condone their use for such purposes.

Scour your local CL area for listings for the Apache 3 or Lock-on games. It's crazy how many times I've seen these in my local area. Or check with a local OP. Odds are he has one of those old hunkers in a warehouse somewhere and would be thrilled to get $40 or $50 for the entire cab.

See the two different yokes below. There is the "Assault"style grips and then the "Star Wars" style grips. Whenever possible, try to locate the SW style grip yoke. Even though it uses the same pots with the same exact range, the handles are more user friendly for pin-point accuracy. Strange how simply placing your hands into a different position can influence the experience, but it's true. I could notice it right away when I'd play my SW MAME cab then play on the original yoke at my buddys. Significant score increase due to better aim control.
