I have used polishing compounds, carnuba wax, Turtle Wax and acrylic polish and never have I seen the fast results that Novus 2 gives you on plexi. I had 1 scratched marquee and 2 cloudy bezels (It was so bad on my DK3 bezel, that I could barely see the monitor anymore, making me not want to play the game). Within 2 applications and buffings, all but the deepest scratches were gone, as was that annoying cloudiness. I even cleaned up 2 glass cocktail tops with it. I never could find a local place selling it, so I finally ordered a bottle from TAP Plastics. Awesome stuff.

I didn't have good results on my Space Invaders bezel. I'm starting to wonder if I didn't apply enough pressure.

My thought was to try a messed up marquee - put the novus on and then the polishing rag and then set the small palm sander on top of the polishing rag. Whats the worst that can happen, ruin a marquee thats unusable anyway?

You can get the entire Novus line at any well-stocked motorcycle parts/store. They use it for the plastic windshields on motorcycles and the windscreens on the helmets.

I got the kit off of amazon. It came with a polishing rag too (literally a paper towel)

Ever see the TAP Plastic youtube videos? Good info, but, Oh god that song, "T T T T T T tap tap, Tap! Tap PLAStics!" Very retro sounding.

I bought a Novus 1, 2, and 3 kit off eBay about 3 years ago. I have repaired marquees, bezels, PlayStation games, my headlights on my car, and my work-issued gas mask. I bought the little kit and it is still half full. I love that stuff.

3 is grittier so it's worth having. It will go a longer way than 2 by the added grit.

I do have to ask Phet - how much pressure are you using and for how long? I love the stuff too but find it takes awhile, and sometimes I need a low powered wen buffer to get really good results and even then, it takes me awhile.

Try it - ive used NOVUS on everything and its the least harsh / little to no residue / very safe / doesnt have enough bite to remove anything.

Its just a good plastic polish thats all.

i guess im spoiled. working at a car lot, we have this:

i can literally wetsand in progressive grits from 800, 1000m, 1200, 1500, 2000, 3000, then polish

When im done, the kraps like new. Ita a ton of work, but dammit its worth it.

I had a nasty operation wolf bezel with gun rash on it, cleaned it up like new.

for the home, IF you have an air compressor, i STRONGLY RECCOMEND you buy one of these:

heres the accessory kit: http://www.harborfreight.com/3-inch-mini-buffing-accessory-kit-95394.html

Its esentially a ripoff of the 3m polisher. Use that with the polish of your choice and viola. It is good for polishing chrome and stuff too..

The next time i get a pin that im going to fuily teardown and shop, im going to try polishing with one of these( with it on slowwwww) and ill let you guys know how it goes.

Yeah - Cadillacman - i am sure thats the way to go if you want it to be truly perfect / ready to put the work in.

As much as i love Novus 2, and it does work - without hours of hand buffing (and with a buffer, half hour at least), scratches will still be there. Nothing beats the sandpaper scaling up approach with a good product added on. When i first used Novus, i found that it removed surface dirt very well, but until i really went to work, scratches would still be there.

Its worth noting what makes Novus so good - besides the added grit, which works like Sandpaper - it doesnt have Petroleum Distillates - which have adverse affects on Plastics (dulling and dissolving affect). These P.Ds are found in most household cleaners, and i am sure the little bit of this stuff in these products wont tear up what you are cleaning at one time, but its still good to be safe. In the Pinball world, the only suggested cleaning product is Novus due to this - as the clearcoated playfields can be impacted by repeated use of PD based products.

i really didnt see any difference when i used it either, but from what it sounds like i needed to buff more...

This was my experience. I might try the air-compressed buffer technique, if only my air-compressor worked....
