I'm about to dive into this Intrepid deconversion, and dumped the roms to see if any of them were Intrepid code that didn't need re-flashing. Only two of them (#7 & #9) came up as known "rtriv" roms on Hamster's Web Rom Ident. The rest were unknown.

My guess is that it's a version of rtriv in mame. Who can help me verify this supposition?

Also, I'm looking for anyone with info on this boardset.
Specifically, the sound chip daughter board that I think this game needs:

Here're pics of the one I've got:

Looks like you need to replace all the roms and IC with white stickers from these pics

Thanks for the photos! The only other one I'd seen had an oddball riser board over the sound chip.
Does it only use one GI 8910 sound IC?

Also, the white bodge wire looks factory to me (last pic in 1st post). Does your pcb have it?

Other pic with the riser sound board:

So you may have helped solve a problem for me. My board has sound issue and I have not looked into it yet. Pretty sure my board was deconverted from the trivia game back to Intrepid. Might need that riser to fix my issue.

My board does not have that badge wire. It has 2 in a different spot.

I suppose your sound problem could be from the 2 bodge wires because those pins don't connect on my board, and it shows no sign of having been soldered there. It's hard to know for sure, but they could have been part of the kit that was never removed.

I've looked for higher resolution images of the top and bottom of the Sound Daughter Board, but haven't found one yet.
Attached is a larger image of "Fast Intrepid", but it has a slightly different sound board.

Could someone with one of these boards take a few pics and post them here?

Interesting, I just realized that the boardsets you guys posted pictures of are Taito PCBs, the connector markings are a dead giveaway and you can see the Taito logo partially concealed under a sticker (where the two ribbon cables are connected). Seems to be the same hardware that The Pit and a few other games use. Here is a list of games that use the same "The Pit" MAME driver: http://www.progettoemma.net/indice.php?source=thepit.cpp

I have an Intrepid PCB without the Taito markings and no soundchip daughtercard because it has 2 slots on the board already (for the 2 required AY Chips). I was never sure if this an original board, but it has stickers with serial numbers and the metal shielded daughterboard is sealed in epoxy. Funnily enough this is exactly the way that those seem to have come with (some) Taito PCBs: http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=631

So now I am thoroughly confused: which ones are genuine Nova releases, or are they all? Did they start using Taito PCBs and then made their own? Or vice versa?

Here is a picture of my PCB:
