Lurker here but I guess I better finally post. Really enjoying the back and forth here.
I also thought the Hyatt was not a bad venue, just the game space could be organized a bit better perhaps in regular rows and also especially the lobby area on Saturday morning needs a re-think. The lobby area was waaaaaaayyyyy too crowded, and using one line for all attendees made the pre-reg a joke, as others have already mentioned.
However, I do want to say we really appreciate the efforts of all involved. I have been to CAX every year since 2005, and I bring my two sons and their friends along. We live in the Phoenix, Arizona area, so it's a bit of an investment for all of us to attend but it is well worth it!
My thanks to the whole Extreme Team for making this event happen and for making it so enjoyable.
I notice a lot of people posting here bemoaned the lack of a Paperboy. I am working on a Paperboy restoration currently, and it might be ready for CAX 2010. I'd be happy to bring it along if:
1) Someone can help me find a System II cab in decent shape or failing that, System II cab plans or dimensions. My game appears to be an all original Paperboy kit from 1985, including the monitor, that someone stuck inside a Defender cab as a conversion. Everything works except the controller (I already have a replacement, but it is not installed yet). All the sticker serial numbers on the boards and the monitor match, it is just in the wrong cabinet (in my opinion).
2) I receive confirmation by next spring that there definitely would not be a Paperboy at the 2010 CAX show otherwise.
I bought a CPO and controller overlay from Rikitiki at this year's show (really nice BTW), but I still need the right cab or I will need the plans or dimensions in order to build it.
