Noticable CAX no-shows

Lurker here but I guess I better finally post. Really enjoying the back and forth here.

I also thought the Hyatt was not a bad venue, just the game space could be organized a bit better perhaps in regular rows and also especially the lobby area on Saturday morning needs a re-think. The lobby area was waaaaaaayyyyy too crowded, and using one line for all attendees made the pre-reg a joke, as others have already mentioned.

However, I do want to say we really appreciate the efforts of all involved. I have been to CAX every year since 2005, and I bring my two sons and their friends along. We live in the Phoenix, Arizona area, so it's a bit of an investment for all of us to attend but it is well worth it!

My thanks to the whole Extreme Team for making this event happen and for making it so enjoyable.

I notice a lot of people posting here bemoaned the lack of a Paperboy. I am working on a Paperboy restoration currently, and it might be ready for CAX 2010. I'd be happy to bring it along if:

1) Someone can help me find a System II cab in decent shape or failing that, System II cab plans or dimensions. My game appears to be an all original Paperboy kit from 1985, including the monitor, that someone stuck inside a Defender cab as a conversion. Everything works except the controller (I already have a replacement, but it is not installed yet). All the sticker serial numbers on the boards and the monitor match, it is just in the wrong cabinet (in my opinion).

2) I receive confirmation by next spring that there definitely would not be a Paperboy at the 2010 CAX show otherwise.

I bought a CPO and controller overlay from Rikitiki at this year's show (really nice BTW), but I still need the right cab or I will need the plans or dimensions in order to build it.

Hell, I would have figured out how to bring mine had I known Bill wasn't bringing his. It wasn't that no one had one, but I think everyone thought everyone else was bringing one. :D

By the way, please post a pic of this!

A couple more pix of the Paperboy (Defender? cab). I suppose I need a good side view, I do not have one currently, I'll go take another couple of shots. You can see that the original CPO is cut down to fit the panel on the Defender cab, the poor paperboy's head got lopped off! :)

Wow, thanks for posting those. That is a conversion I have never seen :D

Yes, dammit.... was hoping to see you and snap a pic of your wife for the album too.:D

Next time I guess.

LMAO! I added one for you. I was looking for a booty shot but only came up with that one. I also have a few that probably wouldn't fly past the censors...(heh heh:cool:)

Welcome Bilko...glad you stepped forward to post. I think its awesome to see so many bringing games from outside CA. The dude that brought the rare XY game, DEMON drove all the way from Salt Lake City, UT. Now that's pretty damn cool.

Really what its about. Good luck with the Paperboy resto, make sure to post pix as things progress.

As far as games missing:

Space Ace
Cliff Hanger (would have loved to see the special edition version)
Qbert
Turkey Shoot (mine wasn't happy or it would've made the trip)
Beatmania (newer but still fun)
Us Vs. Them
Looping
Heavy Metal Meltdown pin
Bouncer (someone should bring one so I can steal it please)

Games I either didn't see or were missing:

Q*bert
Time pilot
Pleiads
Junior pac
Baby pac
DK3
(Working) Mario Bros
LOTR pin
Galaga
EDOT

But there were alot of good ones there.

My favs:
Black widow
Quantum
Major havoc
Gravitar
Star wars
Star Trek
Tempest

Oh and I have a new interest in minis/cabarets
The battlezone Mini was awesome.

The upright Pac was a multi game, so it was Ms Pac some of the time! The cocktail was also a Ms Pac... at times at least!! It found a lot of love from me... and once others found it I had a hard time getting chances to play it!

I did not see a Galaxian either, but would have liked to have played that as well!

Both times I have attempted to bring my Galaxian, it has broken in the driveway before loading. The first time, the monitor tube fell out of the wooden frame and snapped the neck. The second time, the whole monitor mount wooden frame somehow fell out of place and smacked the pcb. I havent tried to take it again...

Well if the show did not conflict with my work week, I would have brought:
Frogger
Missle Command Mini
Galaga Cocktail
Flight 2000 Pinball.

There is always next year.

No skiing games for Josie. Hoping someone would have hauled an Alpine Racer to CAX since they're so easy to move.

Josie, this is the game I was talking about...

One more game I've really been jonzing to play for many months now, and was hoping to see at the show: Assault.

But again, there were so many great rarities there. I can't wait for next year.
