Been working on a bunch of TnF boards.

Great game. Played it as a kid at bowling alley without cheat prevention covers.

Loved it.

Fast forward 38 years.

All I can say now is fuck you to the hurdles.

What's your experience with TnF?

Yeah, Fuck them hurdles. They killed a 7 hour WR game one time. I was crushing the 1 man world record and tripped over a hurdle. At least I beat the record before that happened. I didn't lose another man until I had to burn some about 5 hours later. I'm not sure if you can get too many, but I was playing it safe. I was 1 hurdle away from 12+ hours on 1 man. I then went on to play for 32 hours and only stopped because I had to go to work.

32 hours, that is crazy. How is that even possible? Do you piss in or bucket or wear a diaper? Forget that, just smashing buttons mindlessly for 32 straight hours is an accomplishment....let alone doing it with a purpose and racking up points. I was the king of T&F in my town at 12 years old and as an adult the internet taught me I was actually terrible.

I recently installed the Hyper Sports rearranged kit and have been pretty much just been practicing the long jump, that way I don't have to cycle through all the other events.

The main issue I'm having is being consistent hitting the take off board and then trying to hit 42 degrees, more often I hit 43 which just makes for an average jump.

In practice mode my second jump was 9m54 I think? Then I had a jump at 42 degrees with perfect foot placement at the takeoff board which scored 9m72. Because it was practice mode that score won't save to the game's official high score board but I took a picture of it. My best in game jump is 9m65.

9m76 is possible in the long jump, I've seen that score before but I don't know the jump combination necessary to achieve it. Maybe three perfect jumps at 42 degrees ? easier said than done. The scoring on good jumps seem to have a compounding effect.

I posted about a 9m76 jump years ago and Fly said he had jumped that distance on one or two occasions if I remember correctly, so it must be extremely difficult to perform.

If anyone knows how please speak up.

There's a TAS on YouTube that explains the 9.76. It's quite complicated. Another TAS maker said it was too difficult to include in his run. I had my chance for that 9.76 and I got 9.75 just once in many thousands of jumps. I have seen 9.76 on a few machines way back in the day. All were trackball machines except for one of them. So I think crazy speeds might up your chances of getting it.

Piss breaks weren't that hard on my marathon game. I would clear the qualifying height on High Jump and run to the pisser. I think it takes about 2 minutes for the game to time-out and just run into the high jump mat 3 times. that plus the end of round sequence where the dude is on the podium comes up before the next round.

Here's the last 2 hours of my 32 hour game. I have the entire thing recorded. I was still on cruise control.

Ive told this story before but Track & Field is one of the earliest memories I have of Arcade gaming. My father owned a tv shop, and my uncle owned a game room that was really a front for card games in the back behind a locked door. My mom never liked me haning around the card games. But any time a game would break they would bring it over to my dads tv shop and he would fix it, and then put me on a stool and tell me to play it to make sure it was all working. I was 6-7 years old. Just a wee guy. But i can distinctly remember this game coming into the shop and playing it like crazy.

I found one a few years back in a cabinet that ended up being a factory oddball. Everything was right, but it was wrong. It was messy, but working. I had too many projects and i ended up letting it go after someone local offered me some dumb money on it for condition. But i kind of hate that i sold it. I tried to buy it back after he restored it but his grandkids still loved it. I need to follow up on that one again someday.

Loved the game back in the 80's. Remember playing a port on Nintendo later and playing so much that my wrists would hurt afterwards. No other game did that to me!
Was never that good at Track & Field back in the 80's. I have now owned one for five years and I have improved, even though I don't play my games all that often, but am still terrible at the high jump.
